Question Black box behind the battery?????

Black box behind the battery?????
Anyone know what this is for? Its got a couple black plastic lines going to it. One of the lines is going into the firewall through a rubber gromet. Do I need this line or can I pull it out?

HI!... It's a vacuum resivoir for the climate controls. So you can still operate them when the vehicle is off. I removed mine about 4 years ago. Just re-routed the main vacuum line comming from the firewall to a vacuum line on the engine. No problems here.

Your talking about this right? :

Ya thats it. if you look right to the right of the pcm plug on the fire wall there is the gromet with one line going through it. I pulled the gromet out and the line it was connected to fell back into the fire wall do i have to reconnect that line? I hope i dont have to take the whole dash apart

HI!... Yes that's the main vacuum line that feeds the vacuum solonoids (SP?) for the climate controls.

mine came loose one time. To the best of my memory you should be able to get to it by taking the "surfboard" cover out of the top of the dash, then there is a bracket with some door lock relays in there that can be moved out of the way with a screw or two and you can probably get to the hose then.
