Has anyone put an airbag setup in the back for towing

Just like it says in the title. I need to know if anyone has done this. My truck is lowed 2 front 4 in the rear. But I am going to need to tow my mustang to the track. So I was thinking of putting an airbag sytem in the back to keep it level. I don't know what would happen if I put the trailer and car on with the truck that low and no airbags. Probally break some stuff.

I'm looking into something similar. I'm running a 2/4 drop as well along with a set of 58" T-bars, right now on a heavy load I would pretty much just ride the bump stops. It's not a good thing if I did this regularly.

I'm considering doing a 4-link, just to simplify things. Is there a good bolt on kit for 4-link setup.

why not

just installed one of those weight reduction hitches. My old man towes a 20ft enclosed haulmark with his stang. That's whay he uses. Keeps the *** end from dropping a good 3-4 inches. That way you don't have to do any major modifications to you truck. Look into it. He has 3 inch drop shackles on the truck too.

a good set of weight dist bars and air bags should make it ride like a champ when towing

the bars will make towing so much smoother

If you go with these, you won't need air bags. I used this for my F150 and it worked great.

Air bags can be a real pain in the ****. I had a bud that installed them. He b!tched non-stop about it. Finding air....loosing air....what pressure works best...it seemed like alot more trouble than using my weight distributing bars.

jesus

Jesus, give it a rest, i'm sure there are more names and terms for it. Reducing the the weight on the hitch would be distributing it from the truck to the tounge.........

Anyways........yeah. I would try this before going the airbag route. Reduces the weight on the back of the truck and really keeps the trailer from swaying, especially when you jump on 95 or 93 heading ot epping.

They were generally inexpensive from Harbor Freight and Salvage., or Great Plains. Check them out. Very easy to install as well.

Just call me at work and ask for one of them "weight reduction hitches"

If you get a name brand set up it can be $500 or more. You may want to check WalMart or Meijer and see if they carry them. It will cost more than if you get it from a trailer dealer.

I thought about using the Air Bar system from Air ride Technologies. i wanted to use coilover with it and leave the bags just if i wanted to tow something. check it out at www.ridetech.com/productinfo/airbar.asp

I was considering an air bag setup for 2 reasons -

1) because my roush Springs bottom out on the crappy texas roads
2) To allow me to tow the boat when I need to ..

Since about 10lbs of air would be enough to prevent the bottoming out and it wouldnt other wise effect the ride or height it would seem to be the perfect solution -then air up some to tow

I bought some helper bags for hauling my motorcycle, but have not installed them yet.

It's a great idea, though. Simple, effective, and cheap. Who cares if they leak - they will only be used intermittently.
