crap

Today i go out to measure the tire diamater ( buying slicks tomorrow) and i notice the stainless steel clip at the front rotor has come out and is hitting the back of the factory spokes on my mag. It has acted as a metal lathe
and has created grooves in the back edge. About 1/4 " wide and 1/16" deep.

So tommorrow morning of to the dealer for warrenty repair and new mag?
Those rims are expensive. In Canada $375 to $400 each. I'm pissed.

What do you figure my chances are at getting repair or a new mag?

I figured it was a cobra or an L.
A score in the rim like that sounds like a safety concern. if the dealer says they wont fix it under warranty then go up the chain until it is resolved. It will be cheaper to replace the rim compared to you suing after the rim comes apart and someone gets hurt.
If they don't fix it try and get documentation saying its ok to drive.

I'm guessing they are probably aluminum, I dont know how thick the metal is, and it probably varies depending up on loaction. But if it's in the side, not the spoke, then I'd guess that a 1/16" gouge would be 1/5-1/8 the way thru the material. Probably dosen't meet canadian highway laws. Definatly would not meet US DOT.
So I'd follow lees99f150.

The spokes as you guessed about 3/8 " thick but are concaved towards the back. The back turn of the spoke is about 2 1/2". " U" shaped. I am not worried about the structural integrity of the wheel, but the appearance of the notch.

More worried about the clip working it's way out of the calliper. They replaced it once before at an oil change/service, and said every thing was fine. I did not see the clip coming loose but i did notice the slight groove in the mag later. Wondered how and when............Today i saw it and every thing became clear.

Well tomorrow the ford dealer will have to repair the calliper and we will see about the mag.

Thank-x guys.

a groove like that is a place where stress can break the rim or cause a stress riser. just like when you score a tile before you break it. Get it replaced if you can.

One more reason to avoid the jiffy-lube places like the plague. Why would anybody buy a $30K vehicle and then hand it over to some $6 per hour teenager to work on it?
