Exclamation JBA Headers ... Awesome!!!

Today I got the JBA headers installed by a local speed shop. It only took them 4 1/2 hours and charged me $200.00 !!!!

If you do anything to the exhaust you have to change the headers. The sound now is unreal!!!

Unfortunetly it snowed today and I had the truck towed back to the house. Monday it is going to be nice and I will take it out then.

JBA said that Truckin' magazine came in a few weeks ago to do a story on the headers and found that they increased torque 30lbs and hp 26. That is pretty impressive for 4 1/2 hours of work. They just pulled the front wheels off and the inner fender wells off. No cutting and they didn't even scratch up the jet coat on the headers.

Cecil County dragway here I come!!!!

H8 2 W8 :

How much did you pay for the JBA headers? Do you still have the stock Lightning exhaust system? I have my Lightning completely disassembled right now and I guess this would be a good time to do this project. Can one guy easily do this? Any special tools need?

Thanks,
Terry

I got them from Truck Performance Center (800) 719-8100. They were $578.00. I could not find anybody that could beat that price. They are Jet Coated and the shipping was FREE !!

Hope this helps.

Terry,

I would think if you had the time and patients one person could do it. I stopped by while it was on the lift and once they took the inner fender walls off it was fairly easy access to the headers. Unlike the Bassani's the JBA's are shorty headers and no cutting is required to install them. I would recommend trying to do this on a lift.

As far as the exhaust I have 2 two chamber Flowmasters. I did notice a loss in low end torque but a real kick in the high end horsepower.

Good Luck!!

ROB

H8, I thought your torque was supposed to go up with the headers?

Hey guys, Sal here. I just finished my Bassani install after work today, so I'd like to comment on a few things. First of all, I totally agree with H8s comments about the headers. No matter which brand you buy, you gotta have them. When I got the old ones off and put them next to the Bassanis, it was like a straw next to a piece of 4" PVC pipe. I haven't gotten to drive the truck yet becuase it'as snowing, but I'll let you know my impressions. As far as installing the headers, I'm sure the JBAs are a bit easier, but I had the Bassanis on in about 3 hours. The only thing you have to "cut" is about an inch off the extra shock stud that sticks up so you don't scratch the header placing it on the passengers side. The fender liners come off in five minutes. The hardest part was getting the lower header bolts tight because they are difficult to get to.

Wink

Hey Steve,

The torque did go up with the headers. When I just removed the old muffler and replaced it with 2 flowmasters I felt the torque go down, but the high end HP went up. Now with both headers and new mufflers I know it will all equal out.

Just like Sal said you have to replace at least the headers to appreciate the performance and sound.

The JBA part # is 1679SJS. That is for the 5.4 with the Jet Coat application.

The # for JBA Tech support is (800) 830-3377 Ext. 105 and ask for Jeff. These guys were very helpful with my questions.

Cool

Thanks for the info, H8. After reading this post I have decided to go with the JBA's instead of the Bassani's, mainly due to the ease of install and lack of cutting. Truck Performance Center http://www.truckperformance.com
seems to have good prices, and I expect to order a set from them as soon as I get a confirmed delivery date on my L.

Check out the F-150 Online store. Roger is great to deal with and prices are very competitive. Not only that, you're helping support the web site.
