Quick question on Hi volume Oil Pump (FRPP)?

Does the 4.6 and 5.4 oil pump interchange with each other?

On the factory pump ford has two different part numbers between the both. If there is a difference what are they?

To me sight wise they are the same.......Please help I have both and need to know which one to use.

The FRPP pump is just an OEM 4 valve 4.6 pump. It's stock for the Cobra, but it's an upgrade for the 2 valve 4.6 and 5.4. We use them on every motor build. Keep in mind the shape and larger size of the new pickup tube will require slight modification to the inside of the oil pan, and you need to cut off the "shield" on the pickup tube as it doesn't clear on the 5.4.

I used this pump when I built up my 400H.P plus N/A 5.4. It's a really nice unit.

Now you do all these modifications to all your motors? What about not having the sump far enough down into the pan? Wont this call air to be sucked and an irregular oil pressure? What is the part number you use?

Who said anything about the sump not being far enough down?

Ok let me back up I have the pump and the sump doesn't fit the pump because of the opening. Now what i did do is cut the metal bracket on the cobra sump to make it fit the pan. I am worried that the sump will not sit in the exact location as the 5.4. (since the 4.6(frpp) and 5.4 are different angles.

I have a regular 5.4 and a 4.6(cobra)(hi volume) with me but need to know which one is the correct one. They both seem to work.

I'm still not quite sure what you mean. The FRPP pump comes with a matching pickup tube/screen. Do you have that, or just the pump? You can't use the regular pickup with the FRPP pump because it's a different diameter. But regardless, the pickup that comes with the FRPP pump has the same screen height as the stocker.

Thanks sal!

Ok here is how it is if anyone else gets confused. I used a 03/04 FRPP hi volume oil pump with pick up tube. The tube will have to be modified by cutting the metal tray on the side of the tube.

You can also you a stock oil pump and tube from what I hear it flows enough for a built motor. :santa:

I have used the stock pick up tube on all my built motors with an HO oil pump. The only thing we do is use a custom o ring. Had only one issue with oil pressure but that was due to debries left in the engine on a reman block.

Merry Chrismas & God Bless,
