Post Lightning Tuner: psp filter vs.airaid---questions

i know much has been said already about the
performance improvements of these two systems. better air flow, better performance.
i was wondering about the design.what real benefit comes from the airaid design? i can't
see how the airaid provides cooler air, it still gets its supply from under the hood.
was it designed just to be different from
psp and downs more form than function benefits? thanks sal or anyone who cares to comment on this well worn thread.

Hey Freak,

Save yourself the extra money and just buy yourself PSP`s intake or Down`s Ford kit.I don`t believe there is any big advantage to the AirAid.Can`t understand why pay the extra money when you can put the cash towards tires or something...You were there the night I ran 13.0`s,The open filter seem to work just fine.See you at the track.....

I am thrilled with my Airaid setup, but I suspect that from a performance standpoint, there would be no difference between it and the PSP/Downs. I like the fact that the filter is protected in an a so called Cool Air Dam (Evergreen performance terminology - the manufacturer of Airaid). Apparently under WOT there is little temperature difference between the engine compartment, and the area from the wheel wheel that the Airaid sucks its air from. I was happy, however, that after washing my car, and opening the hood for engine detailing, that the water all over the front of the Cool Air Dam, was not all over my K&N filter as it would have been with the open design. BTW, I was going to order the PSP, but my needs were during Sal's absence and I didn't want to wait. I'm glad I didn't - I would hate to have missed all this fun. BTW, you can have an Airaid in your truck the same week you desire it. Roger Lemere is a wizard at fast, efficent delivery.

I wash my SVT by hand some times 3 times a week, I have never had any problem with the K&N getting wet. Not to mention all the mustangs that weve built with open air filters. To each his own,....
