Post Airraid owners

Just wanted to ask all owners of the Airraid intake system how much they paid? Has anybody compared the H.P. figures between all the intake systems for the L? Is there a big difference in H.P. between the open style conical filter i.e. K&N, PSP, and the closed type the Airraid?

Thanks.

What do you mean? I thought the air-raid was an open style and the K&N filter was included in the kit. Thats the picture that is in the F-150 Online digital marketplace. I just placed an order for one and if it's not the open style like the picture showed, I am sending it back and getting a PSP.

Sorry to confuse you, what I meant is there any difference seeing as how the Airraid comes equipped, I believe unless it's an option, with an engine heat shield that closes airtight on the bottom of the hood. I hope that clears that up for you. Well anyways how much did you pay for it?

Well actually if you do a search and type in the word Airraid, you'll see a post by PBGAS. In there he has an Airraid with the box I'm talking about.

I'm a happy Airaid owner, I purchased the first one from Roger. It is fantastic, and of the highest quality. Manufacturer claims a 12 HP increase, and I beleive it. The box is open on the top and right side, but the top seals to the hood when it is closed which is the way it was designed.

Got my Airaid last night put it on this morning. I saw Sandy's and ordered one. The problem is that it didn't fit just right. I had hood clearance problems w/ the box. I called Airaid, they were very nice. They said they had one other person with the same problem. I had to leave the rubber gasket off and take snips to the high quality powdercoated box to close the hood. I spoke to a guy named John and they are going to rework things a little and send me a new setup.(he told me to do whatever it took to use it till I get a new one) If you have one coming be careful on the hood clearance, I closed slowly w/a flashlight and saw the problem before a bent hood.
It does great things to the truck, as is, compared to the stock setup!
Sandy, ya up for Bithlo next Wed???

Hey Tom:

You are making me nervous - it makes me want to go out and look at my truck (I was wondering what that rectangular pattern was that appeared on my hood - only kidding). I am curious why yours would not fit, if in fact mine is fitted in there properly - but it seems to be.

I have to work until 7:00 on Weds. unfortunately, but I am very anxious to see what you turn before your go rad and start throwing on headers, etc. In that we are equipped the same at the moment it will be very interesting to me.

Anyone else out there with an Airaid fitting problem??

I couldn't stand it, so I did go out and look at the truck. It is difficult to see how the fit is, but there is definitely no evidence of any marks from the rubber along the rim of the box. I did notice one curious thing however. If you carefully run your finger over the border between the fender and the hood when closed, the hood is very slightly below the fender on the non airaid (right side), and just ever so higher then the fender on the airaid side. I would love to know it that is how it fit prior to installation. I'm wondering if I should be hollaring for a replacement box.

Sandy, I also got the backwards cut gasket, I think that happened to you. Looks like someone took the pattern and cut the rubber upside down! They got the bolt thing corrected thou. The system makes quite a difference. I wanted stock #s to compare with but I lost my way with that idea! The track is open till 10:30 .......you can make it!

Thumbs up

I am another happy customer of the Airaid setup. I paid the $199.00 from Roger L. here at F150online. I wanted it asap so I paid extra to have it shipped next day. Ordered on a Thursday PM, recieved the kit Friday 10:00 AM. That is service!!

I did however have the problem with the seal that was sent out. It was miscut for the bends and the overall length was to short. I called Evergreen direct and they were more than happy to send out a replacement.
I had them send out a longer, uncut piece so that I can fit it myself. I was very happy with the fit and finish and geez....what a difference in preformance!!

Sandy, my hood fit the same pre/post installation. It sits a hair low on the right, hair high on the left. Fit and finish on the Ford products leave something to be desired sometimes. You should have seen the front facia!! It was over an inch off left to right

You guys are lucky, and smart. I ordered my PSP filter and chip on 12-18-99. Saturday will be six weeks!!! No matter how good the product; this is crapola. I have stopped
looking for the UPS man. If I had known it was going to take this long (I still don't know how long it will be, just that mine is next LOL) I could have done something else. I'm through venting for now.

Thanks for the input about the fit. I thought that was probably the case. Airaid was incredibly receptive, and offerred to send out another box. They indicated that they factory installed the first 20 customers, and everything fit perfectly. Mine was the first mail order, and it probably does fit perfectly, because there is no problem putting the hood down - I would expect a little resistance if it was hanging. BTW, you should have seen the fit of my LT1 Pontiac, it was unbelievably bad, and way out of factory specs. I had quite a struggle with the dealer, before I got it corrected.

Tom: I'm depending on you for a killer time at the strip. I will claim your time as my time, so please hold down the fort for us.

Hey Tom,

There's an excellent chance I'll be heading to Bithlo this Friday for test 'n tune. I hope to see you out there! I'll be bringing a 91 LX 5.0 as I don't have my "L" yet (see my username). Jake Lamotta runs out there and I've seen him run a 13.5 bone stock. I hear he has a chip, filter, and 80mm MAFS now and he's running 13.3. Be interesting to see if he's out there Friday.
