Geico Settles Claim on Wrecked Lightning
I received word that my insurance is going to repair my truck that was stolen & wrecked.
They told me it had to be around 18,000 dollars since the vehicle is still worth 29,000 dollars. I know the body shop manager thru a mutal friend & he is the best in Oklahoma. I know have many decisions to make
since the truck has to be repainted and clearcoated. I'm thinking about getting it painted Chrome Yellow? I also have to pick out 4 new rims & tires, I already have the chrome SVT rims on order but cannot decide on what tires to use? Also have the billet grills on order to replace the damaged stock ones. I need help on deciding what color to paint the beast so I'm going to take a vote from the Lightning board & paint it that color. Also going to change ot the lights for the clear lens. Anybody has any other ideas about customizing my lightning please give me some input. I'm kinda new at this and was kinda hoping that I could get in a new 2000 but I guess with the Body shop manager working with me like this it isn't so bad. Any ideas about Tonneau covers?
BTW I have 2 rims that have minor scratches that are probably going to be available for me to buy back from Geico & 2 tires.
Also what is your opinon on a new hood, should I go with the Cervani or AAD.? Does anybody know the cost?
99.5 Yellow Chrome Lightninmg ?, Chrome SVT wheels, superchipped, Psp airflow kit, Billet grilles, ????????????????????????????
Thanks,
Terry

I've always been partial to yellow, and think the Lightning would be an excellent canvas for it. The billet grille matching the new wheels should make for an awsome ride. Wish they would have replaced it for you, but your good relationship with the body shop manager should pay off in the long run. Good luck, and take plenty of before/during/after photos as they bring your ride back to life - resurrected as a yellow bolt of lightning......Boy, now I'm really missing my Black Bolt...........
YELLOW!
I might also be interested in your wheels/tires. I live in North Texas and I'm through OKC at least once a month.

Hey Terry, Sal here. It's nice to see that you are going to make such a negative situation into something cool by customizing your Lighning. In a way, it's kind of a blessing. I know many Lightning owners that would love to go crazy with thier trucks, but a reluctant to do so for the sake of keeping them original. I like the yellow, but personally I would re-paint it Grabber Blue. I have seen first gen Lightnings painted Grabber Blue and they look totally awesome. If you want to see what a Grabber Blue 99 Lightning would look like, get your hands on the December 98 issue of R/C Car Action magazine. They did an article on the R/C kit, and one of the trucks was painted that color. Looks AWESOME!!

Well, white of course would be faster, but if you are going for a change, a bright yellow would really be outstanding.
I like Sal's idea too, but there was another 60's color that Mopar had, an orange that I cannot for the life of me remember the cute name for, that looks great on F100's and I have also seen it on F150's.
Whatever your choice, given the chance, please don't paint it red again!!!

Paint it with GM code 53, Competion Yellow. That yellow was used on some C4 Corvette years. A friend of mine painted his Jeep CJ7 that color and he is always getting complemented on the color.
My opinion is of course biased, as that is the color of my Corvette.

Sal do you have a picture of a Lightning painted grabber blue. I would love to see it if you can scan it & post it that would be great because I have no idea what shade of bluse this is. I have sometime to decide but would like to have a firm decision by Friday so Bobby (the bodyshop manager)can order the paint. Also do you think this is going to diminish the value of the truck a whole lot?

Just a thought, when you go to changing colors you will be painting a lot more than just body panels. Also, as you questioned, is this going to affect resale value. Anyone that knows anything about these trucks will immediately know it's been repainted (so possibly wrecked) if it is not the original color. If you feel you are going to be completely satisfied with the repair and are going to keep the truck a good while then you may want to make a change. Just my .02
worth.
worth.
BABOLT: I already talked with him many times about doing this & I'm not worried about him doing a good job (38 years in the business). I'm worried about not liking the color or diminished value. I have the rhino liner in the bed so that is one less thing to worry about painting, I still have to talk to him about under the hood paint but I'm sure he has already took that in consideration.

How about the "Mystic" that they use on the Mystic Cobras?
I've been waiting to get the dough to do some racing stripes with that color. The only problem is that I keep finding "go fast" goodies that I "need" first!

hum, yellow hum..... What about doing it in a Mystic paint color??? That would be my route. I didnt want to tell anyone in case I did decide to do it, but instead of having ghost falmes on the front of the truck I have been pondering doing a whole bunch of Lighting Bolts all over the truck. I would do a type of Mystic color that was invivsble unless the sunlight hit it the right way, then it would explode with a myriad of lightning bolts (all different colors). Does that sound dumb??

They don't have diminished value law here in Oklahoma, but I'm still asking for some money because I'm having a independent appraiser estimate the value after the bodyshop is done with it, the insurance company already told me the ACV is 29K so it better appraise for 29K after the completed repairs or I will sue them for the difference.

Hi Asdeman
I saw that my name was mentioned (mistake). I would vote on the Yellow and do it in the same paint code that Ford used to paint the prototype Lightnings. Who knows you might have a 2001 Lightning there. To do the job right and to stand up to the scrutiny that a color change will generate you should pop the cab off of the frame (take the box off too and remember to do the inside of the rear fenders, Ah heck. Just pull the fenders off of the box). Now you can paint the firewall and the underside of the cab because it is red too. Yea! it's a lot of work. You also have to do the doors inside and the jams. It's a good thing that you need a new windshield because your paint job will be better with it out (lose the backlite too while you're at it). Does it sound like a lot of work? It is, because I have only covered the tip of the iceburg. I hope that I don't sound like a wiseguy but I have done the paint thing too many time. ( I use to enter my cars (antiques) in national competition. I know how people love to nit pick but I also know what it is like to walk away with the blue.) Terry. Good luck in whatever color you decide to paint you Lightning.

htning2strikes i go for the mystic but the yellow would be great seems like i have seen a yellow with pinks and blue or something else .. i would definately go with the ram air hood.. to bad you have the wheels ordered i would think about the 20" off the harley truck.. aren't there other colors like the mystic? if there was a yellow or blue.. i think for had some other ones also.. wasn't there a post about another brand of tires not long ago? just make sure that the frame isn't bent.. they could put it on a machine before they start.. good luck
