Angry Snow

It snowed last night and I had to drive to work. We got about 4 inches and I was a little worried about how the lightning would handle it. I could have cried when I got onto the main road the road crews put down enough salt to make the road look like a dirt road. Just a note the brakes work great in snow but grip from a start is terrible even with a full tank. Scott

What worries me even more is if the guy behind me can handle his rig!

I went with a Yokohama FV-340 Studless snow tire, and they are great !

I can go sideways at any time (of course), but it grips very well when you want it to.

The car directly behind me was rearended this morning, but I saw the minvan coming and started rolling forward so I escaped.

Wow Scott,
Did you really have that much trouble with traction? I have the stock tires on my lil girl and I'm in Denver and I drover her to work during both the big snow storms we had here this season without any trouble at all. I thought it was kinda strange because she seemed to handle better than my offroad used to.

I've had no major problems driving in the snow with stock rubber. Just be judicious with the power application. Course I still am looking for snow tires.

It probably wouldn't be bad if there wasn't so much ice under the snow. I got stuck pulling into the parking lot were I work today. I'm from Maine so I know how to drive in the snow the truck sucks in the snow.

Thanks alot Scott,

Just put that knife in my back a little deeper and twist. We have had no snow in Arizona and I am waiting ever so patiently to go snowmobiling and of course can't, and here you have to tell me its snowing where you are, I'm so jealous. I can't win, waiting on snow, waiting on my L, I'm getting tired of waiting!!

Can't speak too much about the Lightnnig just yet, can't imagine driving it in the snow - however, I just put Bridgestone Winter Duellers on my Denali - can you say WOW - barely any need for 4X4. Braking is particularly good - truthfully - have not had the anti-locks kick in yet. Even tried 60-0 on snowpacked street. Nothing!

Looks like 225/70QR16's are the replacment size - $95.00 ea. at Tire Rack. Alittle sucky for width but I bet they help.

How about chains on the tires? Mash the gas and let the sparks fly!

I have found that by putting 450#'s of lead and sand in the bed over the wheels the F1's work ok as long as I keep my foot out of the blower. However, I have to remember the weight is back there and take it easy on the breaks and the curvers or else the lead slides around.

I have the 225/70QR16 Bridgestone DMZ2 Winter Duelers on my truck here in Cleveland. They are good on packed snow and ice but in deep snow there is no way around the fact this thing is a 2wd pickup truck. I'm used to my AWD Laser, which is unstoppable. Two days ago I pulled into my driveway with about 10" of snow and a 10deg incline and the tuck just stopped and said you want me to do what? I think I need more weight in the back but I'm afraid to put too much back there. My thinking is if you throw off the center of gravity too much you might have other handling problems when braking or turning.
