99.5 Likes and Dislikes!!!

I don't know about you guys, but I think that we have been shorted in several ways in reguards to our new truck. The longer I have it, the more I miss some of the amenities that I have gotten use to in my 95 Lightning.

As far as likes go.....
1. Power and torque..acelleration.....unbelievable
2. Styling (you have to admit this thing really looks as awesome as it runs...turns heads everywhere I go)
3. Smooth handling
4. Brakes

As far as Dislikes go....
1. As stated before exhaust begs to be changed out to a more aggressive system.
2. Interior....sun visors, rear view mirror, and seats all seem to be a step back from my 95 Lightning.

In all fairness there are things I like about the interior also and there are several of the guys who have had problems with their trucks ie: piston slap, boost gages, therostat sensors ect...but this is a new truck and these things will happen...all in all I have to admit....damn I love this truck!!!!

Tybee

if bmw wanted to build a "M" pickup truck, they would buy the lightning from svt, re-badge it and sell it for 50k. (thats a like)
another like, just did an oil change, 8 dollars for 6qts 5w30, & original motorcraft filter from walmart. the plug and filter are close enough to drain together into 1 pan, and you can do it without lifting truck, and oil filter can be prefilled with oil b4 install (someone actually had us in mind for this one) i really can't find a hair out of place on mine, don't like the steering wheel vibrations, but i realize the cause and what you have to sacrifice to get rid of them. this is the slowest vehicle i own, and i absolutely love it.

BBQMAN

The slowest!

Good grief, man, what do you drive?

As posted earlier, I do have a "69 Chev Bel Air 427/390 horse that is pretty awesome, but I don't think it is real world faster than my Lightning. Maybe in theory, but I don't think I would like to push the envelope with 20 year old suspension tec hnoligy. That Chev can be a little scary over 125, even with the cop suspension.

I've only had White Lightning up to 100 on the speedo, but it is an absolute no drama machine at that speed. Just like 65 in some of my muscle type cars.

Or, are you talking absolute 1/4 mile type performance, in which case, the Lightnings are certainly not #1 in terms of "absolute" performance, but on a horsepower to weight basis are probably pretty close if not on top.

Why am I beating up on you? Perhaps it's just that I finally got my boost gauge to function. Love 9.5 PSI

Bill
my other rides all have a better power/weight ratio than the 99.5
dodge ram 5800lbs/625hp
lexus gs400 3500lbs /300hp
valk tourer tbr sc 800lbs /140hp
all have a better top speed, all do a better 0-60 & 1/4mi, although the 99.5 is stock, i'm sure i will be able get it past the lexus in the near future. sure are a lot of "hp freaks" on this list

The likes have been already stated in various other posts.
Dislikes-
*Interior being based on the XL model. The
XLT would have been a better staring point.
Although I like the new seats over the
old Lightning seats (preference issue on
my part only)
*Availability of chrome wheels. I will have
mine plated at some point in time.
*Some quality issues, i.e. piston slap and
front suspension noise. I am confident
they will be resolved properly.
*Exhaust could be beefier sounding.
*I also dislike the fact that I can't
really do any performance mods until this
engine issue is resolved.
Even with these concerns, it is still a bada** truck.

MRBBQMAN:

Couple of posts up:

Your current stable reminds me of what I had in 1986, when VP Service and Parts for SAAB-Scania in this country.

My 69 Chev was still primo and a real stormer. I bootleg imported a normally aspirated (non-turbo) SAAB rally car with slightly softer suspension that made 275 real horsepower as my company car. It was a 5 speed, but only needed 3, as 3d was good for 125 honest mph.
I had just built my swb '56 pickup with the built 300 six with cam, headers and triple Webers (300 hp at the flywheel) and i had a Honda V-4 Sabre which I am told had about 130 hp, although they never published it. That bike was so powerful, I never had the guts to go to full throttle in 1st and 2nd, it would spin the rear tire in third. I sold it and bought a Harley Sportster, almost just for the sound.

Another time, another life, and this is why I just thoroughly enjoy my Lightning. Brings back a lot of very good memories.

By the way, my first car, in 1955, was a bone stock 1929 Ford Model A coupe which I paid $50 for and it had less than 20k miles on it. It had been used on a military base, being passed on from one Commanding officer to the other. When my dad was transferred, the new CO didn't want it, and I got it for the same price that it had gone for for years. Unfortunately, it was not up to the trip to Dad's next duty station after that one and I had to let it go, but at least I got $100 for it!

Nice to know. I think I'll leave my alone after the pipes, rejetting and K&N. Anybody been pulled over by the cops yet? This truck gets too much attention from the officers of the leauw. I got a ticket from Mr. Texas Highway Patrol guy for having tinted headlight covers - during daylight hours! I came upon the scene of an accident and the guy pulled me over and asked to see my registration and then gave me a ticket. What a jerk!

Where in Texas was this cop. I've had tinted headlight covers for a long while, not to
mention no front liscence plate and never had a problem with the cops here in dallas
(Knock on wood). Maybe the cop was just bored and wanted a look at your truck. Most
likely just had to fill his quota.

Denton, Tx on Country Club Road. Maybe a bad combination of things, short highway patrol officer, tall nice looking girl at the scene of the accident wearing short shorts, nice looking truck, opportunity to impress the young lady etc... I'll find out what the fine is today.

do you have to remove those covers for headlights to work , what about headlights having to be on in the daytime if it's raining. i don't see a lot of blacked out vehicles in my area (Louisiana). they might also be against the law, i know the blue headlamp bulbs are. (and any other color but white, unless it's an expensive car, then you can do what you want.

Front plates are required in Texas although I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for not having one. The trooper that gave me the ticket said that shades were "unapproved equipment" even though you can buy them at most automotive stores. There are also rules for window tinting (too dark is "unapproved equipment"). I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for headlight shades during the daylight hours... until now. Fine - $78.

sixpipes,

Just tell the judge that they are manually hidden headlights, you take the covers off at night?
