The covers are made by AVS and are really nice looking on the black Lightning. They do however, snap into place and are easily removed.

Not sure of the shade that sixpipes has on his but mine are just a dark smoke. I don't take mine of very often, in fact the only time I take them off is if I'm driving out side of DFW at night or washing the truck. With all the street lights you can see pretty well anyway. I was informed by a officer that the main reason they are illegal is that we are hindering people from seeing the blinker. He also said that it's really up to the officer to give you a ticket or just a hard time. Looks like sixpipes got both.

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with their Lightning feeling like it is "chugging" at low speeds. It feels like the torque converter is locking and unlocking rather quickly. I don't know if this is controllable by the computer, i.e. making the converter lock up later and stay locked up longer, but if anyone knows about torque converters please let me know. This is about the only feature that really bugs me about my truck and I would like to remedy this problem.

Thanks,

Collin

"Front plates are required in Texas although I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for not having one."

I was driving down I-10 to Houston a while back when my radar detector went nuts. I slowed to the speed limit. A few moments later I saw a cop heading the other direction. As soon as I passed him, he pulled a very abrupt u-turn and came bouncing over the median, lights flashing. I thought "what the ****, I slowed down!"
He pulled me over, walked around the vehicle once and came back to my window. He calmly explained that not having a front plate was against the law in texas. I said that the truck was new and didnt come with one and that I would put one on very soon. He did give me a written warning, but was very pleasant.
What do you think? I like to think he just wanted to check out the truck.

YEA, I LIVE IN TEXAS TOO. I TOOK MY FRONT PLATE OFF BECAUSE IT LOOKED LIKE CACA. I KEEP IT HANDY UNDER THE FRONT SEAT WHERE I CAN GRAB IT REAL FAST AND THROW IN ON THE DASH. WE'LL ARGUE IT FROM THERE.
LIKES: I NEVER LOOKED AT THE TAC WHEN I TOOK IT TO 140 SO TODAY, LONELY ROAD, NO TRAFFIC, CLOSE WINDOWS, FLOOR IT. WOW, IT'S ONLY AT 4200 AT 140.
LIKES: UNBEATEN SO FAR SVT COBRA ONE DOWN, MANY TO GO. THE MOTOR CYCLE I RACED WAS REALLY FUNNY. THE KID KEPT LOOKING OVER AT ME IN TOTAL DISBELIEF THAT I WAS RIGHT WITH HIM. IF HE'D COME UP ON ANYONE, HE'D RUN RIGHT UP THE BACK OF THEM. THIS IS ONE COOL, FAST TRUCK.
DISLIKES
TIRES TOO EXPESIVE, TOO SHORT A LIFE.
ASHTRAY IS TOO SMALL FOR MY CIGAR.
THIS TRUCK LEANS MORE ON CURVES THAN MY 93 LIGHTNING DID. I GUESS ITS BECAUSE ITS HIGHER. I REALLY MISS THE CENTER CONSOLE. THERE'S NO ROOM IN THIS TRUCK FOR ANYTHING. WHOS BRIGHT IDEA WAS THIS 60/40 SEAT. THE ONLY PEOPLE I'VE EVER SEEN DRIVING A LIGHTNING ALL HAVE GRAY HAIR LIKE ME. MOST KIDS CAN'T AFFORD EITHER THE PRICE OR THE INSURANCE. IF THE EXTENDED CABS ARE COMING, I'M GETTING ONE. WITH THE STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY DOWN WHICH IS THE WAY I LIKE IT AND MY HANDS AT 10 AND 2. I CAN SEE NONE OF THE GAUGES. HOW BORING.
RADIO, CD IS GREAT, ESPECIALLY WHEN COMPARED TO THE PIECE OF JUNK RADIO IN MY 93. HOPEFULLY THE BRAKE PADS DON'T WEAR OUT EVERY 20,000 LIKE THEY DID ON MY LAST ONE. I COULD CHANGE CALIPERS AND PADS, BLINDFOLDED.
BIGGER WINDSHIELD IS NICE, I CLEAN IT EVERY MORNING BEFORE I LAUNCH. STYLING IS GREAT. PEOPLE NEARLY WRECK LOOKING AT THIS TRUCK.
SYNTHETIC OIL AND K&N FILTER, LIKE ON THE LAST ONE, MAKE THE TRUCK RUN BETTER AND INCREASES THE FUEL MILEAGE. I SMOKED A TRANS AM FROM A STOP SIGN THE OTHER NIGHT. I GOT THERE FIRST. BRAKED, PUSHED THE GAS, AND LOOKED OVER. HE NODDED AND OFF WE WENT. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD POWER LAUNCHED SINCE ADDING THE K&N FILTER. IT REALLY SPUN THE TIRES A LOT MORE THAN BEFORE, BUT I GOT TRACTION BEFORE HE DID AND PULLED HIM A CAR LENGTH OUT OF THE HOLE. HE NEVER CAUGHT ME UP TO 80 WHEN WE HAD TO SLOW DOWN. HE REMARKED "YOU GOT A BLOWER DON'T YOU? I COULD HEAR IT WHEN YOU WENT BY ME. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BABY!!

I live in Houston, Texas. Got a ticket a couple of years ago for no front license plate. Could not believe it. They are always out to beat the man down.

Dave, in Louisiana covering any of the required lights is against the law. Louvered covers, tinted covers, etc are all ticketable offenses. So are clears, strobes, and, like you said, blues.

Here's one you may not be aware of. You cannot mount a red colored wind deflector on your vehicle in California. The reason being it will pick up, color and reflect red light, which can only be found on the backend of vehicles. Not saying you will be ticketed everywhere, but it only takes one hungry, have not had a "pink" contact all day highway patrolman/police offcer/deputy to ruin your day. (Blue bug deflectors are also frowned on too....)

Noelvm,
you said:

There was a long post on ages a while ago (you can find it by clicking on the search link). You might be surprised.

Justen,

I was referring to replacing your required lights with strobes, like some of the "ricey" types are known to do with their blinkers. Louisiana (at least in this area) is rather Gestapo-like in their enforcement of some of these rules - for a while there was a real problem with police ticketing people who had vehicles which were purchased new with HID lighting. Heh!
