Going to the track tommorrow...Any tips or advice?

I'm going to the track tommorrow for the 2nd time while owning my truck.. I went a couple of years ago and the best I could do was a 13.52 at 104mph.. The temps were 98 degrees w/ a full tank of gas and my 60ft was a 2.1..

Well my mods are still the same only I have Nitto drags, the temps are gonna be low 60s/high 50s. Also i'm going to make sure to only have a 1/4 tank of gas this time to see if it helps.. I'm going to shoot for a 1.9 60ft and see if that makes a nice difference in my times

Me and another buddy played around on the streets the other night coming home.. He has a 2001 w/ a 5lb pulley, Johnny Lightning (conservative tune), JL ram air, JL CAI and silver bullet muffler. His Dyno numbers was 368 RWHP and 470 RWTQ.. We punched from a 15mph roll and a 50mph roll.. the 50 was done first and I put a truck length on him very fast. The 15mph he jumped out on me a truck and slowly I pulled him in around 85 and kept pulling. I was shocked .. the temps that night was 54 degrees..

My mods are just a 4lb pulley, air raid intake and JDM 93 octane street aggressive program chip and boost bypass... What do you guys think I should run considering the lower temps, nittos and less weight? Any tips on launching would be great also and heating my tires...

Thanks a lot!

Let it cool w/hood open for 1hr, pull the front sway bar, heat them up good, and stab it off idle. That'll get you a high 12.

what rich said.

don't go below a 1/4 tank or you risk starving the pumps of fuel from slosh on takeoff.

mash the pedal the 'instant' you see the 3rd yellow come on. stage as shallow as possible for best ET.

Dont forget to drop some air pressure out of the tires in the rear and pump up the fronts.Try 16 lbs in the rear and spin them in 2nd till they smoke for at least 5 sec. If you can drive around the water box and back into it that also help cause you wont be dragging the water to the line with you. Good luck tommorow and be safe. Let us know how you make out.

What will pulling the front sway bar do? I just got myself a 2000 SVTL, I have not driven it yet, it is in florida, but the first place I am taking it to is the 1/4 mile. I race my SVTF regularly and it runs as 12.36 at 111.5.

Reduce unsprung weight, and also make weight transfer much quicker.

AVOID the water!
Don't even back up into it.
The tread will hold the water and put it on the track where you are going launch.

Put cardboard over the front grill (improve areodyanmics and pick up a few mph)

Get video.

He's running Nitto DR's - never had that problem with mine after a good warmup .................. F-1's now are a different matter.

If the front tires go through the water, and you then do a burnout, as you are staging the water is running off the front tires and on the track. Right where your rear tires are going to be traveling.

If you do a burnout with wet tires, you are spraying your rear fender wells with water, which again, is dripping on the track and your rear tires as you are staging.

Both tires hold water in the tread.

I only go in the water with slicks.
I go around the water, back into it, spin them over once or twice, pull forward, then do a nice smokey burnout. That way I don't ahve to worry about water on the track.

Ever notice the guys at the line working at the track have a MOP there to soak up the water? Why do you think they are doing that?

Weight is obviously one of your enemies. Drop your trailer hitch, spare, driver seat and tail gate. Good advice on the front sway bar on the weight transfer!

I ran MT's so I am not sure how to launch on street Nitto's at the track.

Never the less, good luck and I hope you improve your time!
