Scratched Valance Anyone?
I remember a while back a few of the guys had delivery problems with their Lightnings.
My L was delived July 30th of 99 and I just recently found the scratches underneath the front end from the freight delivery.
Could everyone who had problems possibly post here so I can have something to show the dealer. I don't want them thinking this was done by me. Since I know it was'nt I don't drive my truck much. She has 1,700 miles on her to date and is in heated storage for the winter.
Thanks much,
Mike

I hope this information will help you out. When I took delivery of my Lightning on the 28th of April ( I looked that sucker over for 2 days for flaws and inperfections) I found scraches on both the lower left and right undersurface of the front fascia. I had missed it before dealer prep(hidden by the dirt)my Lightning must have been stabled in the mud at OTP. But the tell tale marks and the ugly green paint told me it was transit damage by the haul-away. My dealer fixed it but they were in no rush to do so.

I picked up My first 99 at Treadwell Ford in Mobile Alabama. Sometime in April. It was beautiful. A couple mechanics from across the bay where I live showed up just after Myself to gawk. On of them pointed out the scratches. I had informed them I wanted it , I had a $500.00
deposit on a black one that was due in at the end of the month. Someone else was supposed to have been interested but failed to purchase so they gave me the first option.
Anyway the front bumper sheath\air dam\facia or whatever you like had two scratches on the lower. It looked as if it was damaged while being loaded\unloaded from the transporter. I was surprised that Ford
hadn't ensured this was not a problem. Quality being job one and all. It would be wise for them to alleviate this glitch in the system as mine was painted by them. I wasn't so happy about it but I had to have the truck. It was painted and in My possesion the next day. Good luck.

Mine was (is) scratched on the lower right. I have since scratched it some more on curbs/tire stops in parking lots. I seem to pull in further that I should. I'll hit it with some paint when I detail it in the spring.

Same way with mine, took delivery in june, bypased the dealer prep seeing that i am a tech, got back to the shop to look it over the next day, and found 2 nice gouges in the lower right facia. Nice blue paint left by the transporter i might add!

I got mine in June and it was shipped by rail. The dealer found the scratches during prep as well as some on the passenger side rear panel. Both were taken care of by the dealer (billed back to the shipping company i think).

I purchased my 99 Lightning from Spalding Ford in Griffin, GA. It was sitting on the showroom floor when my dad happened by and saw it. That evening he called me excited to let me know that he had seen it. I had my name on several lists and had decided that I was just going to have to settle for a 2000...because the only color I wanted was WHITE. I called the dealership and they confirmed that it was true, they had a BRAND NEW 1999 SVT F150 LIGHTNING. The next day, in mid August, I made the trip and purchased it. Upon final inspection when the keys were handed to me, I noticed that the front valance was scratched all the way across on the bottom...like someone had driven up to a curb too far or drove over a bad dip in the road. The truck had 17 miles on it and I questioned that perhaps it happened during one of these 17 miles. I am now 99% confident that it happened when they rolled it off the transport. I pointed it out to the salesperson and he wasn't happy that they had missed that. They fixed it for me without any problems, (make sure that they re-insert the plastic rivets back in the splash guard), and even supplied me with a loaner F150 SWB 6 Cyl. I hope this helps because it sounds like you have really babied your truck. I now have a little over 1300 miles on mine. Keep us posted on what happens.

Heres a good one. i took delivery in late september. Portsmouth Ford was in the middle of paving the whole dealership. i just wanted to get my truck home so i didnt take a good look at it.when i inspected it the front bumper cover on both the left and right was scraped. not to mention there was hot top all over the tire treads and all over the fender wells. i got all of the scratches out and most of the hot top out by rubbing the areas with gasoline. you spend 30k and you still have to detail it with gas!!????????????

My delivery date fro my dealer was delayed 2 days because of the transport scrathes. My dealer told me at that time that Ford was the one to inform them of the problem and not to deliver any of their Lightnings with out first repairing or replacing the facia (my option).

Just came across this topic today. I have a big scrape on the left side. I'm 99% sure I did not scrape it on anything. Has anyone gone back to the dealer after a long time to complain? I took delivery in late September and now have over 5k miles on it.

Front Lower Bumper Scratches: I picked up my #503 on 5/22/99 from Fritts Ford in Riverside CA. The truck had just come from the outside storage area and was very dirty. I saw and inspected the truck as they detailed it. The front facia was scratched on both sides with 3 or 4 inch marks through the red paint. I elected to use touchup paint myself rather than have the repaint the whole bumper or the bottom half that would then show a fog line. The scratches are only visable to the oil changer now. My feeling is that they were caused by entrance or exit from the train or auto carrier in CA. I called SVT and reproted the problem because I figured it would happed to all of them that were transported that way, unless they made some changes to the height of the carrier or slowed down the drivers on exit. Looks like my early efforts were just waisted breath.
