Question

Any of you ever consider these tires for drag racing? They would fit on stock rim and have soft compound.

Hoosier also makes a competition tire which is designed for autocross. I will probably buy two of those for autocrossing but I think they'd do well on the strip as well.

A quote from the site:

"The new g-Force T/A R1 goes even further in the direction of pure racing tires while maintaining its "street-legal" status."

Does this mean I can drive on the street with these tires as well?

I am seriously considering getting a pair since I'll be able to fit them on SVT wheels, but want to get opinions from those who have experience using drag radials - do you think these will perform as well? Would you go with 295/35 or 305/30?

Thanks,
Mike

Brimstone,

Comparing the specs against the T/A Drag Radials, they look pretty close (actually a bit better, if I am reading this right).

I have a call in to NTB right now, the guy is going to call me back on availability. He quoted a price around 285 ea. If they can get 'em, I'm ordering a pair.

I talked to somebody with experience using both drag radials and racing tires, and he said a racing tire be it 295/35 or 305/30 will cause loss in performance on the drag strip even compared to the 295/45 F1s. He said in drag racing the length of the tire is very important, whereas in road racing or autocross the width is important. Drag radials are designed to expand and stick whereas a racing tire is designed to hug the road in turns, corners and stops. He said the only racing tire that would improve performance over the F1s would have to be the same size as the F1s (overall). What do you guys think? Anyone with technical knowledge on drag radials vs. racing tires? It's hard to believe that racing tires are just better DRs.

Using the 295/35ZR18s would leave the tire around 8% off the original diameter of the stock tire on which your speedo and computer is based on. The 335/30zr18s on the other hand would leave you off by 9%.

Try to find the following tire sizes below, if anyone makes them. These would result in a deviation of less than 3% which is what I undertstand to be the accepted deviation.
305/45z18--> +1.25%
305/40z18--> -2.97%

hope it helps.

After much begging, pleading, cajoling and bribery, I finally got a hold of someone at B. F. Goodrich today and found out that these tires aren't released in the sizes we need and the slightly smaller ones are backordered till doomsday.

I guess I'll have to be patient for a while longer (pant, pant, drool, drool)

Thumbs up

Who would have thought, A few months ago when I mentioned that I was going to try out the DR`s That my SVT would respond so dramatically.Glad to see that you guys are buying these drag radials. Doesn`t make any sence to try and have a fun day at the track launching on street tires,when you can be LAUNCH HARD all day with DR`s and have fun.. Good luck next season to all of us

Spiro,

what size DRs are you using? I'm at the site right now and it looks like they have better size options for the L than Nitto.

pretty interesting that BF no longer makes tires, it's under their name but made by Michelin.

Cool

Wyldman -

If you're real nice, maybe I'll let you make a couple of runs with my drag T/As next Friday in Denton.

Hey Brimstone,

They are 255 50 16`s. It`s like making a gear change when I bolt there bad boys on.I could have the luxury of a 3.55 on the street, and a 3.89 at the track with these tires.Nothing like saving money and going faster at the same time.......

So going with a smaller DR will increase performance? I'm getting confused here . . .

A shorter tire (my DR`s are 26')will lower your gear ratio also.

Spiro...What wheels did you use for the DragT/A's? Were you able to use the stock lug nuts? Thanks Jim W.
