Diesel Powered Lighting??

This is something Ive been throwing around for some time.

Im needing a tow vehicle for the Red beast and I have my silver truck just sitting there waiting for a new engine.
I have been seriously concidering dropping in a 6liter Diesel powertrain into the silver truck.
I know it sounds nutz but Ive been mulling this idea around for a while now.

Any thoughts???????

Scott

I sent Sal an email about this a couple of months ago, said it could be done. I have a 6.0 L Diesel in my 05 F-250, you can make tons of HP & Torque with those motors, the only problem with the 6.0 L is puking coolant, I believe I heard the head studs are weak.

while you have that beast out put new head studs in.. arent the 6.0 basically the same setup as the 5.4? i know crap about diesels but im almost positive they are.. ill be very interested in seeing how your project will go, and i may have to drive to Sals to see it while its getting done when the time comes.. Sal is da man!!

actually the 6.0l is not even close to a 5.4l gas, well the trans bellhousing bolt pattern is the same, but everything else is different.

6.0l 32v, 2 piece main block, 2 piece oil pan, front and rear engine covers, rear timing gear train, vtg turbo with stock boost around 24 psi, etc, etc.

It sounds great but I bet launching would not be the easiest of tasks with that much weight upfront, plus the front end would have to be cut out or run a differnet intercooler. Custom rad, etc.

Probably cheaper to buy a built 5.4 for a lightning then a 6.0l engine, or sell the other lighting and save up for a 4.5 v-6 diesel f150 - that is if ford ever gets around to putting them in the trucks. Or just buy a superduty with the 6.0l and have two of the best looking trucks that ford makes.

Before I returned my father's old truck(04 F-350) to Ford I noticed it had NO coolant in it, is this why>??? -Mat-

I would stay away from the 6.0. Just too many problems with them. I see them coming in all the time at a much higher rate than the 7.3. Granted we like to use our trucks a little more than the average person out here, the 6.0 has not been near the setup the 7.3 was. May have something to do with why it is getting replaced......

I tossed this out just to see what the feedback would be like. Its something that Ive thought about for sometime.
I need a pulling truck for Red and thought that it would be different to build a diesel Lightning. I will be looking for a doner vehicle either 6.0 or 7.3 just to see what can be done.
