Care Of K&N Filters
Hey Six,
Yeah I know that seems silly to mention them in the same sentence but it is true about the resale. Everyone always says that H-D cost so much but I always say that you just have to buy your first one and then you can trade as often as you like for very little money. I have traded on the average of about every 18-24 months for nomore than $2,000 ever since 1989. And that is with me moving up in models everytime.
Also, H-D has the know-how to engineer the same type of motorcycles that the Japanese and Italians are building, notice Buell, but why would they want to mess with a great thing? They are gradually improving the Big Twins every year and it is exciting to see what is coming from year to year.
Another bike I really like is the KTM Duke...single cyl. street bike with motocross type susp. and brakes. I guess I like it b/c I have a '99 KTM 300 E/XC dirt bike. I have thought about trading my other Lightning (97 Buell) for a Ducati or Duke.
Anyway, some good conversations on motorcycles, seems like we have alot of riders on this board....I think it goes hand in hand.

Hey Collin:
One can certainly not deny the value aspect of Harley ownership. When you look in the used prices in Motorcycle Consumer News, my Valk has gone down a few K and the same year Harleys have gone up in value. The new vibration free softails are particulary exciting, but the Valk is totally amazing to ride - loss of value notwithstanding.

Well, to continue my contribution to Motorcycle Online:
1. If I owned a Valk, I would be compelled to figure out a way to run 6 straight chrome pipes out of that beautiful motor.
2. Collin, The bigger motor I was talking about is the TwinCam 88 displacement upgrade available from Screamin Eagle, along with the other SE tweaks. It includes bigger jugs which increase displacement to around 96 cu.in., I believe. The dealer will do the mod on a new bike and it's covered under the standard Harley new bike warranty.
3. I like the Road Glide - even with those dual headlights. Test rode one at Biketoberfest. They look great in black. I also like the frame mounted fairing. Very solid. Have to get used to the fairing not turning with the bars, though.
4. So you're the other owner of an FXLR!
Sure don't see very many of them around. I've got a '94, which was their last year. I think it's beautiful and really don't want to trade it in but it's important for me that my wife is comfortable when she rides with me and I don't have storage space for two bikes, so I guess it's motorsikle shopping I go.
5. Always kinda wanted a KTM dirt bike. Even though it's a much higher performance bike, for some reason it reminds me a little of my old BSA Gold Star thumper or my even older (we're talking when I was 14) Cushman Highlander.

Mike:
My next to last Hog was an '89 FXLR Custom - a nice ride. If you ever visit me at my office, I have a large picture of it on the wall. I am running 6 into 6 from Two Bros. Racing. Pretty sweet. I ran SuperTrapps on my FXLR and Strader slash cuts on my Springer.

Hey Mike,
I guess this is our thread now along with BBQ. I am hoping to do the Big Bore on my bike (1550 cc vs. 1450 cc) but I don't like cracking the factory seal on cylinders. We definitely need to talk seriously before Bike Week gets here. My dad and I have been going together since I was about three years old. I look forward to Daytona every year, and hope to get there in October for the Fest someday.
My FXLR was a '92 and was probably the best paint job I had ever seen from the factory. It was the two-tone blue, very dark blue and a medium blue with red pinstripe...I loved that bike. I guess I have made the natural transition:
'84 Softail stock
'87 Softail apehangers & some chrome
'92 FXLR
'93 FLHS
'94 FLHTC
'98 FLHTC - now
'00 FLTR - on order, hopefully by Bike Week
Well, this has been long enough, look forward to meeting you in Bike Week I hope. I am also planning on going to World Ford Chall. in St. Louis with my brother in law. He has '95 white Lightning.

Collin, You're right, we've got to get together. You and yours are welcome to stay at our place here in Orlando during Bike Week if you don't want to stay in Daytona. It's about 65 miles to Main St. from my house. Since I just started a new job I probably won't be able to take off more than one day to run over to the beach but I know I'll at least be able to do that. What part of TN do you live in?
Sandy, I definately want to pay you a visit at your office to meet up, see all the SimCom stuff and, especially, to see that pic of your '89 FXLR. Friend of mine in North Carolina has a '93 anniversary model FXLR. He has two sets of tanks and fenders. One stock and one set with some great looking yellow and red flames and a chopped rear fender.
MRBBQMAN, The vision I have is 3 pipes per side sweeping down, then up and back like a motorcycle version of Big Daddy Don Garlits' 1975 "Swamp Rat" Hemi engined dragster. Of course, that would mean you would have to prop your legs up on your handlebars, but the look might be worth it.
