2000 Lightning...Tonneau or no?
I ordered a 2000 Lightning recently in, you guessed it, black. I was told the CD Changer and the towing package is now standard. The dealer told me though, that I could not order the tonneau cover. It wasn't an option. Has anyone else heard the same thing? I know it sounds ****, but I really really want the factory cover on there. Why would the factory not have this option?
SVT hot line told me that the covers were deleted when they were found to fly off at 120 MPH. I had one on order with my 99 L. Had my ordered tonneau arrived, it would have sure flown off today!! My after market one fits, and looks great, however.

I ordered mine (99)without one because of the production hold on it. I ordered my truck on 3/1 and got it on 5/31, it was a few more weeks before they shipped any with the covers. I went thru hell w/the dealer to get the correct one and then it was flawed. It had been drop shipped and I spoke to the vendor direct, they sent me another whole kit so now I have a spare kit. Niether is perfect. Perhaps that is why Ford is wishiy washy on them. My opinion would be look at others and decide for yourself. Ford wants about $400 for the "Factory" model.

I am almost positive that no 00 lightnings will have the cover. I talked to svt 3 months ago and they said They were having problems with the factory ONLY because of availability. They said if it was going to be any more of a problem they would just discontinue it. So looks like 99s are going to be the only year they have them. I have gone 140 and mine has stayed right in place. Its nice to be one of 866 and even nicer to be one of even less with this option.
So, Sandy, I see by your sig that you've also defected to the Valky ranks. That makes at least three list members (including MRBBQ and sixpipes) who ride the big Honda. Maybe I should consider one of those things. They sure do look good. Of course (and I'm sure you understand) I feel a little like I'm cheating on my wife to even think about riding anything other than H-D. (Plus, what would I do with all my t-shirts, decals [including the one on the back window of my L], HOG membership, etc., etc.)

Thanks for all the responses guys. Now I know the reason behind the decision. Let me ask this. I wanted the tonneau mostly for aerodynamic reasons (ie gonna be drag racing it a lot). Is there a significant decrease in ET/increase in gas mileage with the cover vs. without? I wanted a soft style cover so it would be light and easy to roll up out of the way if I need to carry something big. What is a roll 'n lock? Maybe that's what I'm looking for. Thanks for tolerating all the questions!

Yes they do increase aerodynamics.I personally like the look of hard tonneaus. But the only reason i dont get one is because they are so heavy.I would definatly stick with a soft cover, they are light , look decent, and do the same for ETs as hard ones.I have always put on LIGHT GREY covers on my trucks. they match the interior and look great. something a little different , ya know!I always got positive feedback from grey ones because people dont usually think about it because the always see black ones .When they see mine they reaaly love it.!Believe it or not they really look excellent on black too.Ive had them on black /purple/white/and marron , all with grey interior. IT LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!!!
