How many of you ever tow a trailer with a car in your Lightning?

Cause once I get the brake controler set-up I will probably be towing our stang with my Lightning.

I use a load-leveler hitch and anti-sway device. Have no problems with my JLP bars also.

I towed my brothers 5.0 for 6 hours to get it dyno tuned. once you get moving about 70. kick the OD on if you see a hill a comin, slow it down and OD off and let it ease up. Never had a problem with it.

 

I've moved a couple times in the last few months and used a big enclosed U-Haul trailer each time. The trailer with everything in it probably weighed around 4,000 lbs., and I had absolutely no problem. Also, the bed was packed full of stuff too. Remember about turning off the OD if you see a steep hill coming.

One question though,I got that Superchips 1715 tuner and it says not to tow in the performance tune,so should I switch it back to stock for towing?I mean I got the line pressure at stock setting,doesnt seem like it would make much of a differance in towing.

 

Yup. My father tows a 20' Haulmark enclosed trailor with his mustang in it. The load leveler and anti sway is a must with an enclosed or it can get squirly on the highway when it's windy.

Pulls it like it's not even there. Break controler is a must too.

 

My L has seen quite a bit of tow duty and does fine. I definitely recommend the electric brakes though! Makes a world of diff.

I've towed with mine a few times and my husband has done the same with his. We have the electric brakes and that makes a big difference. It pulls real well and I haven't seen any issues even though I have an aftermarket higher stall torque converter (my husband has that too). The only problem I have (and same on my husbands) is the truck sits really low in the rear when towing. Though this is more due to us having drop shackles. His is a 1999 with 130K+ miles on it and mine is and 01 with close to 70K on it.

 

I towed my buddies bagged' and s/c'd Toyota S-Runner to Greenville, Mississippi last year for a mini truck show. Took over 8 hours and my *** was killing me (shackles with a missing leaf :o )

 

if you're at stock boost level, definitely don't tow anything heavy on the performance tune. the stock will be much safer. they are desinged to tow up to 5,000 lbs and the stock tune is tuned for that capability. i have an EGT gauge and the heat these things generate towing, even when stock, is scary. it doesn't take much of an incline with towing to put them over 1400 degrees and stay that way til you let out.
