New Product From Chickenears

We at Chickenears are very proud to announce our new Cool-Aid Forced Air Intake System, it's available now on our website. After building 6 or 7 prototypes (over the last year) we finalized what we feel is the perfect Forced Cool Air Filter Induction System.

The 20 guage stainless steel fusion and fill TIG welded scoop system is centered under the front bumper cover and is 22" long X 1" tall and funnels all the air into a configuration of 3" NASCAR hose and aluminum pipe. This feeds our Air Filter Box via a 3" inlet in the bottom. It will fit any Gen 2 Lightning with mechanical or electric fan. Two custom designed brackets hold the hose/pipe assembly securely between the fan and pulleys, and the scoop bolts solidly to the trucks frame using existing frame bolts.

This is the best part, you will lose virtually NO ground clearance with our scoop, maybe a 1/4" at the most. It's stealthy design makes it hardly noticable but funnels air with excellent velocity.

Our Air Filter Box Kit comes with your choice of True Flow or S & B Filter, plus a Metco filter adapter, foam filter end rubber boot and retaining ring installed. The air box is powdercoated with a flaked gun metal finish that looks great in the sunshine. It is also designed to use your stock air charge sensor or aftermarket push in style. If the push in style is used, the wires will have to be cut and spliced with male/female wire end plug connectors that we can provide at no extra charge. We will assume that you will use stock, but if not, just let us know and we will provide the electronic connections.

The top of our air box is installed with four knurled Allen screws for quick removal and reinstallation and holds the top securely to the box with exact precision. The entire kit is CNC laser cut and turret punched for accuracy.

We're very proud of this new product and offer it to you guys at a reduced cost from what you see on our website. Call for the best price.

Thank you,

Tim and Andy @ Chickenears.com

Looks nice!

What's the difference between the two air filter choices?

If you're going to create some kind of ram air, why not create an enclosed air box. I like the scoop design but to work best I would like to see a closed box. Otherwise you suck hot air from under the hood and you pick up more hot air 6" off the ashphalt. The scoop placed behind the top gril might be a better set up.

An enclosed air box is what the factory provided, no ram air, but nonetheless enclosed. Picture this; You're driving down an Interstate Highway in rush hour traffic, a plastic bag or some other debris gets sucked into the scoop and clogs the air flow, the engine can't breath and you have to stop and dissasemble the scoop to get the engine running again. Not a pretty picture, and this intake system is designed for racing and daily driving.

About the heat factor 6 inches off the pavement; We don't believe that on a 90 degree day the heat from the asphalt will be significally more at the scoop compared to the upper grill, where BTW there is absolutely NO way to make a scoop that will fit there?

Paragraph edited out. It sounded too kocky after reading it again.

One thing that could possibly increase pressure within the box would be to block off the holes in the top, the end would still be open. Duct Tape would work for this for the hard core racer, and it's cheap.

Thanks,

Tim

That is pretty sweet.

You should offer a second scoop that has 2 outlets, so the road racing crew can use it for hoses leading to the brakes on track days.

Have you tested it to see how much the temp dropped?

When you figure out how to make a quality scoop that fits behind the grill and doesn't interfer with airflow to the radiator and provides air to the filter box of a Gen 2 Lightning, give me a call and we'll make a fortune.
Hope you did'nt spend to much time figuring that out. Blocking the opening in anyway would impede airlfow to both the radiator and H/E. I have a very simple solution to this problem I plan on building in the near future.

I'm also interested in this. Have you tested this kit at all? Also, why metal for the scoop? I've always heard plastic is better due to heat conduction, although I myself have never tested either and have not seen any proof of a difference, it's just a question I have. Looks great though.

Yes we have, using our Auto Tap. On a 68 degree day the IAT was 149 degrees at idle. At 45 MPH the IAT was 77 degrees, at 80 MPH the IAT was 75 degrees. This was as low as it read.

We used 304 stainless for it's strength. The scoop and mounting bracket are integrated into one piece.

Thanks,

Tim

The S & B is a gauze type filter, the old standby that a lot of people like and use. The True Flow is a foam type open cell filter, like used in off road racing. They are both great filters but the T F will filter more dirt and keep your oil cleaner.

Very nice, but I would also like to see you offer an optional solid top to totally enclose the filter.

That's a false dilemma, Tim. If the stock fenderwell opening were retained, the filter could both be sealed off from underhood air and there would be a safety valve for the trash issue.
