Solid #s on the BASSANI exhaust dyno tested
ok here iit is stock hp=304 at wheels
bassani hp=324 at wheels
bassani says that is a lot of gain for somebody on a budget. Did i hear somebody say$1800 in a earlier post. that seems kinda steep. not for the system cause it is everything from the motor back. but i would expect more hp for $1800.00. it seems to me if a complete system only puts ot 20 hp or 28 max it seems to me the factory system is not that bad. i would probally go with just the jba headers my self which even if they are only good for 15-20 hp rw. then the rest is kinda useless.this info eas taken out of the 25 th ann. truckin mag.plus i dont like really loud exhaust inside the cab,and i heard the factory muffler was the best part of the whole system on a earlier post.i would also get a nicer tip.

If you own a Lightning, you've got money to burn, baby! Would you only get your wife half pregnant? You got to go all the way to do it justice!
Seriously, I see that they are only posting a 20ish hp gain, but I just put my kit on and the seat-o-pants meter says it's a lot more that just 20hp. Unfortunately, track is closed for the winter, and the closest dyno is 4 hours away.

The dyno numbers in truckin were not completely fine tested. They had different truck to test ..Once one truck was going to be run again for some more numbers the dyno was not available. Then when a dyno was available the owner of the truck needed it back. Next comes another truck, system is put on,dyno runs made with part of the system, owner needed the truck back...so numbers should be higher...they will be doing some true hard testing shortly...
stopped by bassani and had a chat with them.. expect more the 20 hp... they said after the cat back was installed a big increase in torque appeared.

Badasss....
If that 304 HP at the rear wheels was a dyno number, then something is terribly wrong!!!! My 98 LS-1 was getting 305 HP at the rear wheels on a chassis dyno up here during one of my old club's dyno days. A factory screamer, perhaps, but, it was a common occurance among two other members in the F-body club that I was part of. There should be a lot more at the rear even though there is the usual required loss with the auto trans. Those number just don't look right at all!!! I can't say that the Bassani kit looks all that bad at all. In fact, I like there concept about adding on other portions of it. It may be a bit of overkill though because the factory cats are not all that bad. Also....the H-pipe is probably not necessary because our exhausts exit so close to the muffler. If the tailpipes were longer, there would be more back pressure and more heat on the system, hence, making the h-pipe a necessary item. Realizing myself now that the stock system is not all that bad, I am opting for the Borla unit when I can get it in the spring. If anything, the mufflers on it are of a higher quality as well as the piping than the stock unit.

I think you are wrong. 304hp at the rear wheels is an excellent stock #. it also means lightnings 360hp is probally underated. the drivetrain takes more than 54 hp out of the motors output.i think ill just stick to headers and a ex tip.
BADASS...Do a search on this board for Lightning dynojet numbers. Many have posted stock horsepower well above 304. BABolt and DHFerguson are two that come to mind. There are many others. All have bested the Bassani 324 rwhp numbers, STOCK!

HOTROD6 ,
what are you saying. what i am saying is even at 304hp our lightnings must have more hps than 360 at the motor.i believe more than 50 hp is stolen from the drivetrain. it seems to me that pb gas thinks that less than 50hp is taken from the drive train, that is what im questioning.i believe some people have seen more than 304 stock. i have also witnessed two lightnings pulling around 304 hp stock.my comment is even at 304 our trucks are underated and the drivetrain takes more than 50hp.just my 2 cents

BADASSSVT - What I'm saying is that Bassani's truck is a slug compared to just about every Lightning that has posted rear wheel dyno numbers on this board (Is this clearer to you?)!
Driveline efficiency for a Lightning is 80%. If you have 360 hp at the crank, rearwheel horsepower should be 288, if the rated horsepower was accurate. Since most guys are in the 330-340 rwhp range stock, the advertised 360 crank hp is well underrated.
330-340 rwhp converts to 412-425 hp at the crank!

Morning and Happy New Year to both of you.
This debate is interesting to me personally for the following reasons.
When I had a superchip installed, we did two pulls pre installation. Both were 304 rear wheel hp with some "driveability" problems, that had to do with slippage and shifting.
Still, we accepted that as a base line.
The chip was installed and we immediately did another two runs. Bear in mind that we did not disconnect the battery, and that the chip was installed on the dyno, no/zero/zip relearning time at all.
The two runs resulted in 329 hp, with the chip in the performance mode. We then made another run with the chip in the nonperformance mode and got 2 less horsepower but a few ft lbs more torque.
Kind of a long post, but my question to you two is more or less is it possible that the 329 horsepower with the chip was in fact more likely the true horsepower unchipped due to not giving the chip any time to be learned by the computer. I would also say that the sotp feeling was that the chip gave some immediate improvement but the truck got really "faster" over a period of several days. Here, we may factor in the beefed up shift pressure for the sotp feeling of more power.
As I have yet to install my Bassani full system, Sal's chip and Sal's air filter, I will probably never know, but I will redyno the truck to see what that results in when everything is in place. If my theory is correct, though, the truck should show somewhere in the neighborhood of 370 plus at the rear wheels with all that stuff on it.
Opinions?

Bill Murray - Is your truck an early Lightning? There was an EEC change after the first couple hundred Lightnings that really woke up the truck. That is why you see early Lightnings in the low 300 hp range and 14.3-14.4 in the quarter mile. Later trucks are running 14-flat with 330-340 hp on the dyno (BABOLT for instance). Also, later model trucks are not seeing the power improvements with aftermarket chips that the earlier trucks see because of the better EEC module.

hot rod 6,
no need for ?!
i was just trying to understand your response better. auctually what we are both saying is the same. it is pbgas that i am questioning. 80% , that is about what i figured. so we really are pumping out more than 360hp. lightnings are awesome.i havent heard of factorys underating vechicles since the 60sand70s . most other vechicles are a little bit overated.

Mine is #247, so could fall into the group you mention. I am still curious about the power shown on the different runs, but I think I will post a question to Mike Troyer to see if he feels the method we used, no battery disconnect and no learn time, might have affected the numbers.
Sadly, I had to put the switch in normal mode several weeks ago due to crappy winter gas around here to get rid of detonation.
Fixed that OK, but boy I hate those lazy shifts.
