answer to LT1-LS1
Hi Peter B...
The LT-1 absolutely pulls harder on the bottom end!!! I remembered the difference distinctly when I went to test drive the LS-1 when it first came out. I said...hmm....this is strange....there isn't much there at all....however once you get up around 3500 on...that motor comes alive. I was shocked at the power in that RPM area. Lots of top end. My LT-1 used to run out of air real quick! That little project you are looking at there may work out well for you. I have heard the LT-4 HOT cam and it sounds great. The heads also work very well. I have several friends with that combo and they love it!

Paul,
Thanks for the info. Hate to talk about a GM product on this site, but have further questions. Could you please give me your email, mine is Peteb3@home.com.

Another easy way to tell the difference between an LT1 / LS1 fbody is the hood.
With the Camaro Z28 (not SS), the LT1 will have 2 fake hood scoops up near the windshield. The LS1 will not have this, and instead have a hood with no scoops at all.
With the TransAm (and FireBird but NOT Ram Air), the LT1 will have 2 inverted scoops near the nose of the car. The LS1 cars have a forward facing twin scoop at the nose, keeping with the new tradition for Pontiac cars(it almost looks like a Ram Air hood).
Happy Racing!

I know what you mean about the factory freaks I saw a bone stock 99 lightning running 13.5's consistantly at the J+P performance nationals in august. He matched my best ET on a regular basis. I think I will have to get a lightning, going as fast or faster than my mustang in a truck! That would make for some good sleeper kills since most people who I have talked to dont even know what a lightning is!

Camero SS, same engine as Z boosted to 320hp
Firebird 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 305 horsepower
Firebird WS6 brings horsepower up to 320,
All 4 use LS1

Man....did they ever mess up those wheels on the Camaros. Boy oh Boy....someone looks as if they were trying to make that car look like a Chrysler Sebring.....lousy change. I remember when someone leaked out the brochures from GM last year and I was surprised that they didn't update the wheel design. The T/A wheels look nice, though.

No kidding. Next time I line up with one I'll say "Hey, what year Sebring is that? My grandma's got one just like it." Sorry, can' have fun if you are too mature. Anyhow, anyone have a picture of a V6 camaro?
Hi all!
My kill MUST have been a SS! I recognize the scoop. I can't believe it tho....
Maybe he lost some bottom end with the exhaust mod. It just sounded to loud to be stock.
I appreciate the replies to my message. Since I'm not much of a bolthead, typically I'm just a lurker gathering info., but I'll help out where I can.
WOW! What an info. source this board can be!

LD,
What you may have heard is a free mod that the LS1 guys call an "Exhaust cutout". It boosts power, but it also makes the car much louder. Here's a link so you can see the mod:
