Thumbs up Lightning Ram Air Hoods

Cervini has a Ram Air hood comeing out, you can see a picture of the prototype in FEB 2000 MM&FF, it looks good.
I called and the price should be around:
Hood: $440
Ram Air Kit: $175
You will need to get it painted, as it comes in a white gel-coat.

It looks good.

Steve
I saw it. Can't say that I like it as well as the hood on Wyldman's / sixpipes' Lightning or even the hood on High Risk's Lightning. I do like the ram air feature though and Cervini certainly does have a name for quality. Maybe it will take some time to warm up to the look.
PS. Maybe that hood could get me close to 650 horsepower. I've been watching you post very entertaining. Got to run I got a date on the dyno at 6:00 can't be late.

I like it a little better than the cobra style, its just a prefence thing, I like the flared nostril thing. The Ram air setup looks well thought out, have to see in real life, if it fits well.

PS: Babolt my little lightning pictures will be back Saturday, and I will post some on Zing.

Hi 2k Silver bullet
It was my friend Dominic's car, 1984 T-Bird with 900 original miles. It has a 351 with a B&M supercharger, C6 auto and it made over 400 HP at the rear wheels (it's been in HotRod). No electronics on this car it runs a carb. Still needs to be dialed in too. What is kind of cool is that my Friend is over 65 years old and still plays like a kid. I remember when I was a little kid on my bike and he had Ferrari's ( I think he has had every cool toy at least once). One additional item the guy (Dyno Dave) who's house we were at has a Dyno Jet dyno in his garage (now how many guys have a dyno at the house). So on a cold winters night we were BS'ing, bench racing, watching drag videos and doing dyno pulls. I took photos.
PS. Dyno Dave will also dyno anyone'e vehicle: 3 pulls for $90.00 and you can tune between the pulls. Not a bad price for this area.

Hey BABOLT
It seems like somebody said that there was a ram air setup for the Cobra style hood, have you seen anything about it? I feel the same way about the Cervinis hood, it doesn't look quite as good as the other two!

I e-mailed a note to Cervinis the other day and they called and said that the ram air setup won't be done for about 6-8 months.

I did some checking today (12/30/99) and there is a ram air setup available for the the type of hood that "High Risk" has on his Lightning. Only glich is that it is for a regular F150. I was at Classic Design Concepts and had a conversation with Randy about doing one for the Lightning. Maybe if you are interested we can work out some kind of a deal to get it going. Let me know or call George or Randy at Classic. Additionally, I have already redesigned my air inlet system one time and have plans now for a new inlet system that is very clean. e-mail me if you are interested.

PFA, thats funny, I talk to them this morning ~11:45 a.m. and they said the hoods are available now, and the Ram air kit will be available around FEB/March. They already have functioning, simple looking prototype, I don't see why it should take that long...

I didn't actually talk to them but they left a message on the recorder. I'll have to listen to it again after I go home from work this morning, that is if it's still on the tape!

BABOLT
I'll have to think on that. I'd rather have the Cobra style for the looks, but HIGH RISKS looks better than the one from Cervinis, IMHO.

I do agree with you on the styling issue. I think that the Cobra style (wyldman/sixpipes) hood looks the best on the Lightnings and it tends to flow with the design. The Torino style (High Risk) is a very agressive look and can be made to be functional from the ram air stand point. Maybe "Wyldman" or "sixpipes" would grace us with an under the hood Photo. If those scoops are functional I can build and induction system.

Hey BABOLT
If you have the ability to do this, that would be great! I don't know exactly how to do it but, I would be willing to help/learn since we are in the same general area.

I don't currently have an underhood photo w/the Cobra hood installed. I can tell you that it is solid underneath and has a 1-2 " gap between the outer skin and the inner skin. I believe I saw somewhere that it was for insulation.

I have thought about drilling the scoop grills (between the ridges) and cutting a hole in the bottom to install a cold air box, allowing the air to circulate in the gap between the skins. With only one outlet (the intake filter box) it should flow pretty well, I think.

When I ordered the hood from Autobahn, they listed a ram air kit for the F1 Cobra hood. I haven't found any other references to it and haven't had time to call them about it yet. Maybe this week.

I will try to to take some pics soon, and post 'em. I have to finish the work on the Challenger first, so I can take pics of all of 'em at once, this should be bad lookin' stuff.....

Cool

I found these pics of my AAD hood before it was painted. The grey primer allows you to see exactly what Wyldman was talking about.

I agree with Wyldman...

I think you might actually be able to cut out the scoops and locate the exits where ever the air collection system requires. This would allow the space between the top and underside to be used as an airbox. There are some interesting possibilities, but there might possibly be fiberglass partitions (for structural integrity) inside the sandwich that would only allow the air to flow in a given path. I'll do a little research and see if I can find out.
