Cool Fuel Cost (MPG)

I am new here and just wanted to know about fuel cost for your trucks. I have placed a bid to order now just waiting on the truck. I have not driven one since they are very rare here in town. I have a 5.4L F-150 SC and it kind of drinks gas most of the time with no load. I have talked to other people that are getting about the same as I am in at about 13 MPG. What is the Lightning running (true) on the street, performace driving?

Cool

The best I have ever done was 12.2 mpg driving like the preacher I am. When the devil and I get together I can not seem to do any better than 11.6 mpg. I am currently using 94 octg without any additives. When I do use the 112 octg I can get around 12.8 but at $4.50/gal its not something I am willing to do for the sake of gas mileage.

My worst best was 12.2mpg ONCE, worst was 8.6mpg. Most of the time I get low 9's to mid 10's but, I'm in it ALL the time and love it. I haven't made a long trip to see Highway mileage yet. But I feel we could get close to 15 mpg if we try, or maybe even more if you keep the speed down.

Well, I feel much better after hearing mileage numbers from others. I run about 13-14 regularly in mixed hwy/cty driving. Thats with standard pump premium.

Last weekend a friend of mine threw a rod through the bottom of his block on the way to an autocross. After the autocross, I towed his porsche 944 3 hours back to san antonio at an average mileage of 12.7 mpg@85mph.

I am averaging about 14-15 mpg since I bought the truck - 8000 miles ago.
I commute 20 miles back and forth to work and then play hard on the weekends.
I used up the better part of a tank one weekend racing and showing friends what my truck would do --> only 11 mpg.

My best is 17 on the hiway. Worst is 13.5. My normal city (mixed) driving is 14mpg. I typically use 94 octane Sunoco.

99,
When racing your truck and playing hard what was the mileage at the point.

Question

SVT54SC,
My best time was a 18.92@79mph

JUST KIDDING!

...Time at the track?
I have never taken my truck to a track (yet..)
I was racing on the streets against other law abiding citizens, we never broke the speed limits, just reached the limit really quick!
Sorry for the confusion...

I have about 5,000 miles on my truck and my average gas mileage has improved from 12 mpg when new to 14 mpg currently. This is a mix of bumper-to-bumper stop-and-go and 70 mph cruise on my 20-mile each way drive to work every day, plus the occassional WOT blast. On longer interstate trips (400 miles or more), I get around 15 mpg at 80-85 mph.

It was on Plano Parkway against a Z or a SS. The L left first and just kept going, the Z had no chance. Totaly amazed by this truck, come on Ford hurry and deliver mine!!

My 97 xc xlt 4x2 5.4 w/3.55 got 14.8 for the first 30,000 miles (****-retentive owner) of primarily country driving.

My new y2k 5.4 got around 10 for first tank, actual=13.2 for #2, 13.7 for #3 and 13.9 for #4. When I do fuel checks, I fill till it overflows -- so I KNOW it's full (none of this 3-click BS). When I start up the spreadsheet in a few tanks, I'll again do a running average (am a number-cruncher by trade) to see if it can do as well as my 97 -- despite the 4x4.

Wish I had the 10 cyl -- but didn't want to spring for the 250.

Jim
