World Ford Challenge 2000
Things are starting to solidify in terms of the Lightning-class racing at the 2000 World Ford Challenge. Power Surge Performance and The National Lightning Owners Club are teaming up to bring you two Lightnings classes again this year, but there will be some differences...
(All of the following information is tentative)
This year both classes will be handicapped but separated into "Pro" and "Street" using an ET break of 13.0. Payouts for the Pro class will be significantly higher than for the Street class ($2000 win, $1000 r/u, and payouts to the top 8 finishers in a class of the 16 fastest qualifiers). The Street class will be an all-run class.
The Pro class will be ran on a Pro Comp style format - A Pro tree (single .4 sec flash) but ran on a dial-in. You will not choose your dial in. It will be based on your qualifying ET.
The Street class will be ran on a standard Sportsman tree (three consecutive .5 sec flashes).
Also, the NLOC is offering an additional purse to the winners (amount yet to be determined, but probably $100) if they are members of the club BEFORE the event. A similar stipend will be offered for the Fun Ford Weekend Top Truck series with the same qualification.
Sal, care to add anything to this or clarify anything?
Later!

There are many comlications currently going on with the World Ford Challenge. Many of you might not know that the Outlaw class is in serious trouble. The sponsors are offering a measley 5,000 to the winner, while paying the Pro 5.0 winner 30,000. Did this seem fair? ( I think not). These Outlaw cars are just as serious as the Pro 5.0.And in some cases they even make more power than the Pro 5.0.Anyone that knows anything, would have to agree that something needs to be done about this. This is a serious and expensive class. If you guys are interested in what is going on about this problem visit the board at www.nmraracing.com/wwwboard/index.html. I`m not sure how many of you are into the mustang scene. But if you have an opinion I would love for you guys to post them. I`m listed under "Long Time Fan".Empty Pockets Racing is not sure if they will be attending,Mike Murillo and alot of the big boys don`t have plans on attending either, unless there are changes made.Sorry to annoy anyone with this post, But I needed to vent once that name was brought up.

Collin,
It'll be May 18th-21st at Gateway in St Louis. We're trying to get a lot of Lightnings staying at the Ramada at the Arch in St Louis (it's about 5 miles from the track). Sal and I are also trying to work out a pit area for Lightning-class racers to get a group of trucks pitted together.
I've been the past two years and let me tell you, it's the best time... There are definitely some sore Bowties left in the street-wake of that event. It's worth going even if you don't race. GREAT times!
And I'm going to be cooking for the Lightning gang again...
Later!
