Exclamation Bassani Gaskets

Hey all, Sal here. For those of you who bought Bassani systems for your 99 Lightnings and didn't recieve the advertised Comp SS gaskets, I found out why today. Bassani said they are not going to be getting them in until late Dec, so they included new Ford gaskets in the kits. Bassani informed me that all who have purchased the 99 kits, will be sent the Comp SS gaskets when they come in.

Thumbs up

Thanks Sal!
How 'bout a couple more questions?

1) Do we need to worry about all the warnings about not touching the factory Cats till we have over 50k miles?

2) What of the instructions about cutting the shock mount?

Hey Bob, Sal here. Since I haven't gotten my headers yet, I can't really help with "install" advice. As far as the cats go, most states say that you can't remove the cats unless they are bad. Personally I think this is stupid. If your putting cats back on, what's the problem? I know that a Mustang guy in CT just won a huge lawsuit because he had an aftermarket cat pipe on his car and they wouldn't pass it. Well, now they changed the law, and you can do it. I really wouldn't worry about it. After all, if you have cats, why would anyone complain?

Hi!Gang.
I don't know if anyone already mentioned this but in the Jan. issue of Truckin' magazine there is an article on the install of the Bassani exhaust system on the 1999 Lightning. You can also get the x-pipe without the cats (Bassani told me that it is really loud without them). All you need to do is turn off OBDII. I think Sal can do this not sure about Superchips yet. Any info on this.

Hey guys, Sal here. I talked with Bassani a while back and they said they were not doing a catless pipe for the 99. I told them they really should make one, and I could turn the OBDII off in the chip. I have a local guy here who has 3 inch pipe all the way with Hooker Aeromax mufflers and he said it's almost unbarably loud.

Hey Sal
Your "local Guy" with the catless 3" pipes and Aeromax mufflers how does he run. Is the performance gain there? I know from dyno testing there is a lot of underbody heat generated from the cats. Could you give me your opinion. Is the cat-less route the way to go (looking at this from a perfomance angle and not tring to be an environmental scofflaw) Thanks in advance.

Actually BA, I haven't heard from him in a while. I never got any track results from him, and don't know if he ever made it there. Sorry.

Hi GP!
I spoke with Bassani Last Thursaday (they are closed on Fridays). I was speaking with Rick Dyer so give him a call. When we were having our conversation I was ordering a x-pipe for my Cobra and inquired about the Lightning system. I also e-mailed a photo of my Lightning to him. In regards to the Downs blower pully I spoke with them about a week ago (I ordered and have received one of their upper intakes for my blown and stroked T-Bird). Their pully will be a modified crank pully which will drive the blower faster. At that time they were finishing the fab work and were going to do their testing. I have not talked to them since. My advise would be to give both Bassani and Downs a call. I have always received exellent information and service from both of these manufacture/suppliers. I will also try to contact both of them some time Wednesday. Will post what I find.
PS. Check out my web site I am starting to change it around and will have a lot of parts for sale. http://mikesmotorsport.virtualave.net ------------------

Information update!
I spoke with Bill at Downs Ford this afternoon and it looks like the Lightning blower pully (crank mounted) will not be available until after Jan.1, 2000. The good news is you may see an additional 3# of boost.(that would be some easy bolt on horsepower). I also spoke with Rick Dyer at Bassani. Here are the part #s for the Bassani exhaust system. Full system with cats 54150L-9. Headers only 54150L add a -c for ceramic coating (ceramic would be the way to go). X-pipe with cats 54150L-3. X-pipe without cats 54150-2. Muffler and tailpipes 54150L-4. I hope this helps. It is great to see all of these cool parts becoming available. Now I hope that there will be a tire manufacture who can make an 18 inch drag radial. I just need a set by 4/1/2000.

thanks babolt.the blower pully and cat less x pipe are the last 2 items on my list for engine modifications. does the x pipe only fit their muffler or will it fit the stock muffler?last mod is 4.10 gears with the right pinion nut and if it want run in the 12,s so be it.
good luck on your t bird.i built a 88 model with a mild 460 that would run 12.20 on slicks with the air on. one of a few cars i wish i still had. thanks again.

Question

Guys, back to the 50K mile cat question. I'm considering getting the full Bassani system. Will a reputable exhaust shop install the cats w/o hassle, or is this strictly a DIY job? Anybody dealt with this yet?

Almost ANY shop will do that for you. Thats how they get thier $$$. BTW if you are every hassaled about it all you need to do is say you ruined your exhaust system while you were 4x4'ing it over some rocks . Hey don't these things come in 4x4's ? Just a joke.

Hi guys:

I missed the Jan issue of Truckin' and cannot find it anywhere around here, nor can I find their web site. Can anyone scan in the article on Bassani and e-mail it to me at MOSTOYSINC@AOL.COM

I would really appreciate it.
