Speaker Box questions
I want to install a box behind the seat on my 99 lightning. I want the build a box that will house 2 JL 10 W0 and have resessed amp cover in the middle where the console folds down.
Has anyone done this? If so would you be willing to give me the measurements? Any help on this subject would be great.
Thanks

hey there 2fast4u, I went to a place called Streamline Audio here in Phx Az. They have been building award winning systems for years. They whipped up a system that works exactly like what you said. I already have all my equipment (well needed some new seperates for the doors), but the bill would still come up to about $800. Will be waiting on that for a while. They will be installing a box that will house 2 10's with 2 amps & the cd chnger. They do extremly high quality work & as soon as the funds are there I will be doing it. Didnt get any measurements yet just some prices in getting it done. Tell me how it comes out when you get it done. Good Luck

I'm also planning on having a box built for my 2 10" PPIs. I also have two PPI amps that I was thinking would go well on the raised part of the floor between the two seats. I'm hesitant about connecting the system to my stock battery, I'll probably put another battery in the bed. Please keep us posted on how it goes with the install, I'm very interested.

Yep. Back in July I had mine done pretty much the way you described. I had a 10" Eclipse subs built into separate boxes behind each seat. They have alumunum <sp?> faces that are meant to be shown so they don't have any covers. With the seats in 'normal' position (95% of the way back)they miss the seatback by about 1.0 - 1.5", and carry the same angle as the 'normal' rearward tilt I keep on the seats (approx 10-15 degrees rearward).
A MTX amp is on floor in the middle. It's angled up at approx 5-10 degrees, so it is flush with the ledge, and the 8 disk Eclipse changer is even with the back of the console when its in the 'down' position (so I can get to the daggone magazine whilst tooling down the road).
The sub boxes are small (they didn't need much space, thank god -- somewhere around .43 cubic ft each if memory serves), and angled about 15 degrees into the rear of the seat.
Oh, yeah...the cargo box has to go. It really didn't amount to much anyway. Now when the bass hits, it does exactly that. I went with a 5 channel MTX amp due to space considerations so only one amp powers everything. Can't remember the #'s on the subs, cd, or amp, but boxes are stacked in the garage if you want me to get them. It's not going to win any db dragraces, but on the other hand, it's most definately not down on power (at about 1/3 volume the rear view mirror is useless due to vibration)...oops, hate it when that happens.
The head unit controlling everything is an Eclipse 7001. The 5" monitor screen folds and retracts into the dash for stealth, and I stuck a small peice of velcro on the console that holds the remote from becoming lost.
Almost forgot...when you remove the cargo box, you find the carpet doesn't go all the way to the back of the cab. My installer made some xtra covered floorboards that are curved into the corners (kinda hard to describe)-- came out decent, I'm a happy camper.
Do I have pictures of this -- nope. Not yet. Hope to get that done soon and post a few if you're interested.

What you are looking for is exactly like my setup. I have a single box that houses two 10" kickers, with an angled recession that holds my amp. The entire thing fits behind the seat and doesnt affect travel, although I had to pull the storage bin that holds the cd changer. The changer itself was relocated underneath the center seat and travels with the seat. It's a better location anyway I think. I'll try to get some photos and/or measurements for you.
Hey everybody,
MTX makes the Thunderforms(?) that fit our L's and come with or without the subs. It is formed polystyrene or such...the fit is great and it bolts onto stock studs coming up from floor. Color matches the interior as well. very reasonably priced.

Scott,
mtxaudio.com is the address. They didn't have F-150 standard cab (Lightning) listed but I know they make it b/c I have it. I had my own amp and just bought the enclosure with the subs already in it.

You won't find it listed on their site, but stereo shops and Circuit City sell them. They look perfect! Mine is to be installed this week... Cost is about $350.00 with the MTX 10" Subs... Don't know how much without.
Good luck!

I would like to seee some pictures of the mtx box. Is it a single box that holds 2 10" speakers?
If so does it recess in the middle?
Thanks
