It's easy to speculate, but no one has done it yet. I mean Johnny has all that chassis work and a 150-175 shot? And he's still not running much faster.

Granted Parish is making more power, I just put the thread up here because Parish's truck is the way I'd like to see the lightning community go. More HP, street driven, and still fast.

I think parish himself said he had about 40k worth of mods. 40k under the hood of a lightning would be just as impressive. Its all relative to what you put into it. So dont let your panties get all wet over someone with alot of funding and time. Some of us will just settle for 8-10k worth of mods and some high to mid 10s. If I had 40k I'd do just like parishs setup too.

You don't think Johnny, Vinnie, Jim and others have 40k worth of mods? Johnny has 40k worth of chassis.

For 10k you'd be pressed to go 10s. Maybe a built lower end, and a big shot on a ported eaton. But average bottom end is 4500. Then 3000 for a KB, then heads and cams, exhaust is 2 grand, another grand for a stall, what about tranny? Suspension? To do it RIGHT I'd say most guys in the tens have spent 20+.

I hardly believe they have 40,000 in engine and tranny. Johnnys chassis work will allow him to run those 9s with less power than parish. Either way its how much you put into it.

Also I have spend 8k and have built motor, heads/cams, kennebell, most boltons.

Did you do all the work yourself or pay? Did you add all the dynotuning costs and so forth?

It's VERY easy to spend money in these trucks. I'm not saying they spend 40k, but I know Vinnie has had 2 different motors as have a few others, and I know they are well in the 20+ range in mods.

BTS tranny is 4500 with a stall right? + 4500 for shortblock, hell, that's 9 right there and you don't have a tune or a single bolt on.

Amazing response. Got anything else witty to say, hell, I almost laughed.

But not so much.

Why is it so hard to stomach that a chevy guy is going fast and doing it without sacrificing. I was just pointing it out, didn't know you'd all get your panties all moist.

I give major props to Parrish for his accomplishments and actually using his truck. I like that direction for my project.
I am awaiting a JDM built motor within the week, but I am already contemplating my next combination. I have been reading all the turbo posts and think that is in my future. Thinking World products block and stroker kit for max cubes along with 4 valve heads and single turbo.
Ill bet a lot of Ls will be attacking the nines soon.

my mods were ~80% bought used allowing me to save alot of money. I used my exsisting longblock and ordered each built internal piece by piece and had it assembled locally. I got cheaper labor prices then most because of how long I had been supporting the particular shop that did the motor pull. dynotuning doesnt cost me anymore as Ive been with my tuner for over 2 years now and he doesnt charge me to make changes as Ive brought him alot of business.

It is easy to spend money, but if you shop around and do your homework you can save alot of money. Also Parish is sponsored I believe, that is probably saving him alot of money as well. If I raced every weekend I would look into that as well, def. the way to go.

Great plan except for the stroker part. Do your self a favor and go with the big bore if you feel the need for more displacement. Strokers scare me on these motors, especially if your going to drive it on the street regularly.

for the sake of argument, breaking multiple half shafts/rear ends/4wd units is not sacrificing?

Have I spent a LOT of money on everything (motor,tranny,suspension,interior,paint,etc)... Hell Yeah.

But I do refuse to sacrifice my drivability.

Perfect example. Jim called me a few weeks ago and asked if I would be willing to give up my A/C for more HP.
I replied. Nope. If it costs me 20 RWHP then so be it. I drive my L. I like to drive my L. I have the air on full blast coming up the return road.LOL.

Feb 05 ..I drove my L 1000 miles to florida , ran low 11s at full weight, drove around florida and drove 1000 home non-stop..Without one hiccup and I got pretty good gas mileage to boot. Thats 2500 miles in a week.

There will always be somebody faster, lower, higher, nicer, etc.. So I try to enjoy what I have and appreciate the fact that people (outside F150online) still get a kick out of my little 'Hey Hauler' running some SICK-*** #s.

VINNIE

408 cubic inches might have just a little bit to do with it.

Parrish has an awesome truck, but it definately didn't happen overnight. He's had alot of problems as well. I gaurantee that a 4v 5.4 with a t76 will be easily in the 9's, and with the push of a button you can run half the boost on pump gas to drive it on the street all day long. If done right from the start you could do it for less than $20k.
Built Navi motor $8k
Turbo kit $5.5k
Fuel pumps, inj, meter, tune $1k
Tranny $3k
Rims, Slicks $1k
Traction bars, shocks $1k
-------
$19.5k

Give me 10k and a month or so and I can make a stock lightning run 10s. Assuming it doesnt have any problems...

Oh yeah, and you can drive it like a grandma and get over 20mpg if you want.
