Axle/tire size changes via predator...

If someone were to change the axle ratio to a 5.14 and the tire size to the smallest allowable via a handheld tuner (predator, xcal, etc.), wouldn't it make the speedometer/odometer read extremely low? In other words, keep the mileage down? I don't even own a hand held tuner, it's just a curiosity. I wonder if any other engine parameters are linked to these inputs, so that if these changes were made, something screwy would happen.

Don't worry, I'm not planning on doing this. I only ask because I overheard a 'Vette guy this weekend tell me that he did this via a Hypertech tuner to his '96, in order to keep the mileage low on his car. I started wondering if the auto tranny on our trucks would freak out, or any other troubles. Silly question I guess, but just curious.
