Mark3truck,

I am in process now. It doesn't appear to be much of a problem from a physical standpoint, everything mates up and uses the same dimensions.

The electrical conversion appears to be a bit more interesting. I am currently studying the wire harness diagrams to figure out what is common and what is different and what changes/adaptations I am going to have to make.

I am posting updates in the swap only bbs on the TCCoA.com forum for the MN 12 platforms if you want to follow my progress.

The Wyldman

thanks, i am really thinking about getting a thunderbird (96) and I went to a junkyard to look for a part for my truck and as i was leaving noticed an LSC parked at the edge of the yard, if the install isnt too difficult, im thinking of going back and getting the motor out of it

There is a pretty nice supercoupe for sale that I've been looking at. What do you think, go with the supercoupe or get my hands on a "normal" tbird and try to shoehorn the lightning crate motor in ?

(or just plow all the money into my L ?)

Nathan,

If you wanted to build a TBird, putting in a L crate motor would be a truly sweet deal.

Pay some attention to the suspension too, and you'd have a really sweet autocross runner.

I would look at several birds and try to find the one that you could work on most efficiently. A SuperCoupe has the adavantage of a highly tuned suspension right out of the box, but you would pay a premium for it and the SC motor.

If you can find an LX from say, 94 up, then you could upgrade the brakes and add all of the ADDCO suspension tricks, along w/the crate motor and have a Ford version of a "Superbird". A pretty good daily driver and an autocross superstar at the same time.

There are several Birds of varying years and models available for sale on the TCCoA web page under classifieds and a ton of help on what to do to make it bullet proof, kind of like what we have here.

Good luck making up your mind.....

Mark3Truck,

If you go get the motor, get the tranny, the PCM, the exhaust, and all of the wiring harnesses too, it will make the conversion a whole lot easier. The driver's side exhaust manifold has a cat built into it and is a pain to obtain otherwise.
