Post LS1 Vs. Syclone Vs. SVT Lightning

I've been wandering over at the LS1 Forum. The fellas at that board never cease to amaze me. A sense of denial is present at all times when the "SVT Lightning" topic comes to the surface.

The GM boys really seem to have a great respect for our beautiful trucks, which is terrific, but on a side note i've noticed they really are having a hard time believing they could have there behinds handed to them by a truck. Oh what denial will do to the soul. It's a chronic disease on that message board. The flame wars are indicative of the mentality there. I love this board we have.

The information that we exchange here is really great. I don't post all that much, but I read every word. I try to stay involved by asking questions since I don't have the ability to answer many. I live in CT, and have not met one person with a Lightning. I sure wish I lived near some of you guys.

I have read a lot about the LS1's having trouble with our Lightnings & the GMC Syclone, which made it's debut in 1991 @ 3000 produced. Here's a few postings to read for enjoyment. I know some of you will get a kick out of it.

5:LS1 Owner Get's his Booty handed to him! http://206.139.32.21/ls1forum/Forum16/HTML/000984.html

I even posted at the other board. *Evil Grin* Take a look around if you guys have a chance. It helps me to really appreciate the bond we all share on this board.

Take Care,
Mike

Hey guys, Sal here. You want Lightning vs LS1 vs Typhoon? How's this for you.. Went to the track today. Took the Lightning, there were some LS1 guys (who were from the LS-1 board as well) and there was a Typhoon that I coaxed into racing me. The two LS-1 guys has some minor goodies and they were both going in the 12.5x range. I was running consistant 13.38 -13.40s most of the day. The Nittos were really HOOKING. Was pulling 1.90s 60-fts all day, with a best of 1.92. Weather was decent, but there was a pretty strong headwind As for the Typhoon, I saw him make some 13.50 passes, so I figured a race between us would be good. He agreed, and off to the lanes we went. I took him off the line no problem, and was ahead of him the entire race. At the traps, I was about 1 1/2 truck lenghts ahead. Then we get out timeslips. I went 13.46 and he went 13.30. What? How the heck did that happen? The correct truck number were on the slips, but I have no idea how that could be right. The ETs must have been reversed somehow. He never even got next to me. Oh well, I beat him, that's all that matters He said his truck was all stock, and it seemed so.

oh man that suk's! well as long as he knows you smoked him thats all that matters. Are you sure that you just didnt beat him from the traps, & if the the of you had left at the exact same time he would have won? What were you reaction times is what I am asking here. You might have had a better reaction time off the line, but he had a faster time?

Hey Met Blue, Sal here. There's quite the flaming going on in that last post you just put up. You will notice a member named Weekendtoy. Today he posted that he spent the day bull****ting with a 99 Lightning owner at the track. That was me. Real nice guy, running his dads 99SS. The car had some bolt on goodies, including a convertor. He was running 12.5-12.6s. The way I look at it, a STOCK 99 Lightning isn't going to beat a STOCK 99SS, given that all variables are equal. Yes, I've spanked a few on the street, but not when my truck was stock. I love my truck, but it's not going to beat a modifed LS1 without alot of help But one thing is for sure, even those GM guys take a liking to the 99 Lightnings, and even if they are faster, they admit the Lightning is still "impressive" for a 5000lb truck.

I think I finally ended the war. I decided to call it quits at LS1. I figured it would be easier to get a few guys on our side, instead of pissing them off.

It doesn't hurt to have the support of the LS1 guys. A lot of the fella's at that board have a lot to offer us guys over here so here's the posting to end it all.

"I think this topic is ready to die. I'm glad. I started the topic to just have some fun and tease a little, but in all out honesty I love F-bodies & Mustangs. I almost bought one, but I bought my Lightning instead, and for many different reasons beyond 1/4 mile ET's.
I would love to learn from any of you. I'm sure everyone here at LS1.com, & the guys from F-150 online, will agree that it feels great to have a bunch of informative, experienced people to turn to with questions when we go to make modifications to our vehicles. Sorry If I pushed any permanent buttons.

Just remember I'll still give ya a good run *GRIN*. Hope to meet some of you local guys from CT & Western MA in the spring."

Take Care,
Metallic Blue

If that doesn't put this to rest, then we have some serious problems. For now it's over.

Cool

Hey Metallic!!!!! I got your Lightning killer, right here, and it ain't no LS1.

LOL, just kidding man. You troublemaker. hehe
Seriously, like Sal said, neither the Lightning or a Cobra for that matter, have anything for an LS1 if they are all stock with NO modifications. However, I have beaten them several times at the track when they turn a faster time than me but I get to the finish line first.
Peace--- Mad`

Thats great! I know this guy who has a 1970 Cutluss that runs low 13s 1/4mi that he paid less than 3k for. What a POS to ride in though. So,the point is really, whet do you get for your money.

Cool

HI!... I'm not trying to start a flame with the LS1 guys but I have been reading this particular thread for some time now. The one most important thing that I have noticed by reading threads here and on LS1 that everyone is forgetting is that the LIGHTNING weighs 5000lbs. (with most drivers) and the CAMARO weighs around 3500lbs (with driver). Thats a 1500lbs difference. So if you do the math every 100lbs you can remove from a vehicle it drops 1/10 of your 1/4 mile time. So techniqly the LIGHTNING should be 1.5 seconds slower than the CAMERO, BUT IT'S NOT!! I'm not totally sure but I think the CAMERO is 320h.p for "99"? The LIGHTNING is 360h.p. Thats a 40h.p difference! Most of the LIGHTNINGS are running high 13's stock and the CAMARO's are running mid 13's stock. Espeically with the aerodynamics of the LIGHTNING (a brick wall comes to mind) it's amazing that it runs that quick! So if you go by power to weight ratio the LIGHTNING will win hands down every time. Just think if the LIGHTNING weighed 3500lbs, it would run low 12's "NO PROBLEM" !!! Just my two cents. Sorry for the long post guys but it just bugged me that no one stated the obvious. I'm just sick of all the bull***** that the LS1 guys are saying when a 5000lbs "TRUCK" is competing with their 3500lbs "CARS" (and winning I might add)
