Everyone, stop messing around at LS1.
This is what it sounds like to me, and likely most people who are not biased...

Well I'm cooler, my TRUCK is almost as fast as your car, I'm richer (I paid more)...

Give me a break....

I don't think it's a "I'm richer" thing, we just like a little rivalry (I can only speak for myself) between the two. The LS1 guys just couldn't take it that way and became very affended. Met. Blue tried to turn the tone down but it didn't work, ON THEIR PART.

Cool

Neal, weight has nothing to do with anything. If you wanna buy a truck that weighs 5K and race a sports car that weighs 3K, and you lose, there are NO excuses. If you lost, then you didn't bring enough car, or truck. That sounds like the lame argument I used to hear from the GT 5.0 boys when I had my Grand National. Its not a fair race cause you have a turbo. Puleeeese? Personally, I think you guys would have a much better chance picking on GT's and Cobra's and leaving the LS1's alone. JMO and track experience.

First of all, let me say that I have great respect for anything that weighs 5,000 lbs and can run 13s. However, I believe no one on LS1.com does not understand that the Lightning weighs an additional 1,500 pounds. You guys knew the Lightning weighed so much when you bought your truck. And I knew the LS1 didn't have a supercharger when I bought my Z. The Supercharged 5.4L puts out tons more H.P. than the LS1, but it seems some Lightning owners want to make excuses as to why they are slower. It is true that some Lightnings will beat LS1s. And some Lightnings will be beat by LS1s. However, if I get beat by a Lightning, pointing at the supercharger doesn't take back the fact that I lost. And if I beat a Lightning, him pointing at the scales doesn't take back the fact the he lost. Nothing is fair on the street or strip, so quit talking smack online. If you want to compare timeslips, I'm game. But, if you want to start making excuses why your times are slower or that your truck is a better performance vehicle because you can haul stuff in the pickup bed and tow 5000 lbs, then go ahead if it makes you happier about your purchase.
Remember, excuses are always lame, Trolls who enjoy starting flamewars and can't back the smack up always suck, and the winner is always the one that is in front.
Thanks Metallic Blue for stirring the ****pot. But, it seems the only **** in the posts on both boards is at the top once again.
BTW, I will be at the Ennis Motorplex in Ennis, Texas on December the 11th. Here's a pic of my car.

If any one plans on going, you are more than welcome to introduce yourself talk about your Lightning. I'll even race you, if you want.

Well spoke. Not all Lightning owners are gracious in their posts, but the same goes for LS1's. I am always glad to see intelligent, well thought out posts. Yours fits into that category.

That said, fast drag time are NOT what I bought my lightning for. I love fast cars, but since the Lightning is my only vehicle, I didnt have the luxury of buying a dedicated speedster. I am also not convinced that acceleration is the best measure of a vehicle. What I love most about my Lightning is the way it steps up to whatever task I ask of it. Be that hauling lumber or hauling ***.

For my money I still havent found a better mix of utility and fun than my truck. To each his own.

Nathan

Oh, I'm also curious as to whether or not you've tried driving that little thing on a track with turns. My sidewalls (and quite a few smaller, lighter cars) can attest to the surprising cornering prowess of these trucks.

well put DavidZ28. You nailed it on the head about pointing to each others vehicles & sayng if you didnt have, or if mine only weighed in @ blah blah blah. It IS run what you brung, whoever sinks in more of the $$$ will win! I for one didnt but my Lightning to have a fast race car, I bought it so I can go get a Christmas tree, & on the way home race almost any car out there & win! (had to use a seasonal cliche there) My point is I knew I wasnt getting the quickest cheapest car availble to me, but my resources will allow me to soon have one of the fastest truck on the streets one day. That & I really enjoy having a Limited production vehicle that you dont see on every corner (camaro & mustang), but will still whip-*** on 99% of the cars around me!

Nathan, I find autocross a hell of alot more fun and challenging than dragracing. I'm fairly confident that this 'little thing' can hang around a corner quite well.

No Problem. Glad the little bit of friendly rivalry did'nt destroy the fun factor. If you ask me. I did everyone a favor, because no one from the LS1 board or the F-150 board were really tossing ideas or comments back and forth. I'm glad we did. Now we can see who is and is'nt worth keeping in contact with. I know a few guys who had some great info to pass along. Mad your a good guy keep up the good work.

Hey guys, Sal here. I have to agree that the LS1-Lightning thing has gotten a bit out of hand, but you'll get that on an message board. There will always be guys that think thier Escorts and Geos can beat Camaros and Mustangs, just because their Ford or Chevy guys. I'm a die hard Ford guy, I've had over 35 Fords, and would never buy anything else, but I'd never say my vehicle is faster than something that I know it's not. I think that there is one important element that the LS-1 guys and some others haven't picked up (no pun intended) on. Yes, we drive 13 second trucks. Yes we paid 30k for them (average). And yes, there are way faster cars out there. But the thing is this- we CHOSE to buy our trucks knowing this. I could have bought a Cobra, or an SS or WS-6, or something similar, but I didn't. I bought a Lightning. Why did I but it? You'd never understand unless you own one. When I bought my 95 Lightning, I owned a 9 second car. I enjoyed the Lightning sooo much that I lost all interest in my car and sold it to my brother. I then continued to modify the 95 until it made 500rwhp, and could turn 11 second timeslips. I love the truck. And I love the 99. I love the challange of taking a 4-5000 lb truck, and making turn musclecar ETs. Do I tow with my truck? Hell no. Do it haul stuff with my truck? Hell no. You can't smoke in it, eat in it, and it has plastic seat covers on it all the time. Do I treat it like a truck? Hell no. So what if an LS-1 is faster. You pull a 99 Lightning into any car show or race track, and people ignore everything else and drool over the truck. You go to the track, and nobody could care less that an LS-1 just ran a 12.5, but when the spectators see a 99 Lightning rip off a low 13 second run, they go bananas. Do I have a complex because I don't own a vehicle as fast as an LS-1? Hell no. I've owned many cars that ran in the 9-11 second range. I CHOSE to buy my 99 Lightning. And nobody will ever understand the reasons why, until they own one themselves....

I move that "talking smack" be reverted back to it's original meaning ( a dope transaction)
