Hey Tybee-
Will this affect any heat disepation from the calipers, or won't it matter? I had thought of doing this myself, but didn't want to cause any problems.

The brakes look good, similar to the ML55 Benz. The BMW board has liked the kit that Foliotec sells (about $50, special paint, colors, etc. Did you remove the calipers to paint them? If so, please describe the process.
Thanks
Thanks
PFA......nope, no problems with heat dissipation that I'm aware of....I have been painting the calipers on my Vettes for several years now.
Yoda.....actually the paint was a bright red Ford engine spray paint rated I think at 500 degrees...with a high temp clear coat. Both picked up at auto store....Paint is at Tybee Island, this weekend I'll let you know the name brand when I'm back on the island.
Zonaman.....Nope didn't remove the calipers.
1. Two wheels removed at a time and up on jack stands.
2. Clean entire brake assembly with brake cleaner...the cleaner the better...remove all dirt and grease, oil, road scum ect.
3. Tape off around calipers including hoses, caps ect...Take your time and do it right!
4. Mask off wheel well area with newspaper.
5. Cover exterior of truck with old sheets or tarps and mask off with paper around outside of wheel well.
6. Install three or four thin coats allowing time for drying between coats.
7. Top with clear coat for desired look ( I put three coats)
While you waiting between coats is a good time to really clean your wheels and put Zaino polish on them bad boys!
Take you time and you will have a great looking job....If you enter your truck in shows, the judges always love the look of painted calipers. Hope this helps....later

Wyldman, we can't be left out because our trucks are already color coordinated. how about a neon lightning bolt on the calipers, that lights when the brakes are applied.
ps: thanks for the smoke covers, arrived today

I guess I'm fortunate to have the Black Beast. My calipers are already painted black, so I don't have to mess with it.
Finally, a break!

Hey Tybee-
No problem. It looks like most our warm weather is gone anyway. This will probably have to wait until spring. If I went out and looked I could probably find some myself! TIME TIME TIME...

hey I used some stuff called Plasti-kote. Its an engine enamel spray that resists heat up to 500 degrees. It comes in a silver bottle, then I used Dupli-color (co) as the clear coat, again has 500dgr heat range.

Hi y'all...
Been on the road a bunch lately (35,000 mi. in my big truck since September). Anyway, saw this painted caliper thread and decided to put in my experiences. I have painted my calipers with Rust-oleum Sunrise Red (glossy). Hand brushed it on with excellent results. I have been hand brushing detail parts for a long time. I even use the technique on my engine block in my Fairlane (no overspray to contend with).
Total cost was less than $5.00! Just another way to achieve similar results.
Miss not having a chance to check the sight out as much as I would like....no internet in the semi yet.
