Lightbulb "Projector" Headlight Assembly

Hey all,

I just returned from the Specialty Equipment (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, where all the aftermarket companies showcase their products. Lots to tell about, and next week I will post all the pictures of the trucks and cars.

This post is regarding a headlight assembly that I saw. Ford had a concept F150 pickup on display called the "Scuba". It had an incredible looking projector headlight assembly installed in it. It is similar in function to the one used in the Lincoln Navigator, but designed as a replacemnt unit for the F150's.

The marketing people there with the truck said that the headlight assembly was getting more attention than the truck itself. I spoke to Ford's Customer Service reps there, and they said that if enough people show interest in it, they would consider producing it as an accessory item.

On the same subject, there is a company (APC) that manufactures items like the clear taillights and the headlight projector assemblies for import cars. They just spent $200,000 for tooling to make a projector assembly for the 2000 Chevy Silverado.

I asked the rep for the company about making one for the F150. He really pissed me off with his reply. He said that they chose to make one for the Chevy because the company feels that "truck enthusiasts drive Chevys"!!
I told him to check out F150 online and see what a REAL enthusiast drives!!!

Anyway, if anyone is interested in these, I can provide the info on who to call. Hopefully then, we can get them to produce them.

Dom,

If that jerk doesn't want to cater to the single largest segment of the truck population, that's his business. Darwinism at it finest....

whitelite, I would be very interested in hearing about some new front lights! i am upset that there is no option from ford to up grade to Xenon HID lights. I feel that every SVT vehical should have HID's from the factory stock!

Here is something you may want to hear> my company here in the Philippines do business with (Hamsar Diversco Inc) they are a Canadian company and have a Xenon HID system that is universal and that we have put on a standard f150 this system now if you are interested look them up in the web there system is called HDI and there is some retro fitting needed to have them put on the f150 but it is not that hard to do. Now the only problem is that you lose the high beam of your truck but i have found that with the out put of the xenon HID system you have alot of light that you will not need the hight beam not like ordinary lights bulb now make sure you say HID system because they have just the bulb called xenon and this is not the same the system comes with the bulb and a ballast

Cool

I have found 2 places that have
plug in play HID kits for the
Lightnings. Here are the websites www.hidlights.com www.autoindulgence.com. I spoke with a guy at auto indulgence and the price for their kit is $995.
The kit at the other place is $950.

I am interested in purchasing a set but the price is bit extereme.
Does anyone know of a group purchase or a place to get them cheaper?

Thanks

A follow up:

I have been pushing this issue with Ford's "customer service" department. It seem s that the interest in the "projector" assembly has been great. There is a good possibility that it will be an accessory option in 2000. As a reference for pricing, the aftermarket ones available for Hondas & Acura's run about $175.00 per side. I should have the prototype pics up by the end of this week.

I also spoke to another aftermarket manufaturer this week based out in Cali. They were very receptive to the idea of marketing a piece for the F150's. I will be sending them the pics also for them to look it over.
