FTVB with stock pan?

i just curious who all has done this and what kind of results they got. id love both but most of the pans are around 200 bucks. damn near as much as the ftvb. plus a few i saw only held a quart extra. so could i get away with the stock pan?

1. FTVB with stock pan will work fine. Only advantages to getting a 4x4 pan are more fluid capacity & a drain plug. The Moroso pan looks much better but you pay a premium for it.
2. For around $265, you can get a 4x4 pan, filter and FTVB

im assuming the install is MUCH more messy if you dont have a replacement so you can just punch a hole. comes to darn near 285 from chickenears after shipping

i think i had 40 bucks in the pan from the ford place near me. The filter was 25 bucks i think but having the drain plug the next time i do a serivce will be nice.

I just used the stock pan. Probably only spilled a half a quart. It helped having one of those oversize drain pans to collect the oil.

Be careful if you get a Moroso pan though...

Funny how they say they'll send me a new pan to replace mine... they just welded mine and sent it back, so in the end I'm still screwed out of money.

Yes, if you buy the FTVB with the 4x4 pan it comes with the proper filter.

Got my FTVB from Chickenears in just 2 days. Installed it on Saturday in just one hour. All I can say is..........UNBELIEVABLE. I'll be looking for a good neck brace tomorrow. AWESOME! Of course the wife isn't half as excited as I am. What the hell does she know! Just kidding! Thanks to all for your help about the install. It was a breeze!

You can use the stock pan. The aftermarket pans are useful if you're going to do some heavy drag racing, and you're concerned about rising fluid temp's and as they have drain plugs, being able to easily drain the trans fluid. I have a B & M pan - holds about 3 qts more than standard.

PS: You don't have to punch a hole in the pan and ruin it - and it's not a messy job lowering the pan. I did mine with the truck up on 8" jackstands up front and lost maybe a tablespoon in removing the stock pan.

ill throw down street drag if i get the chance ( yes i know its unsafe and illegal ) but i dont think my truck is gonna make it to the track more than a few times. im gonna stick with the stock pan. and save a few bucks for gas

I installed the B&M drain plug #80250 kit in my stock pan. Plug costs under $10 and the next fluid change will be a snap. My local performance parts store had it. Jegs and Summit have an $8 handling charge. Pic below.
