FLOWMASTER EXHAUST ANYONE
Got my Flowmaster muffler installed today and it sounds great. I can't imagine how good a complete system would sound. The people at Mufflex performance exhaust specialists said they would be willing to make a complete bolt in Flowmaster performance system for our lightnings if enough people are interested. Contact Denny in their Question section of their Web page and let him know if your interested. He will use my lightning as a model and make a jig to make the kits. Be carful when changing exhaust systems. If you do not notice any sound change from normal driving to hard on the throttle, such as a JET sound. You may be losing HP. The Flowmaster muffler is a dual inlet, single outlet muffler and may be restricting exhaust flow. The Edlebrock muffler is a 2.5" dual inlet, 2.5" dual outlet and gives you 60% more flow, less exhaust restriction. You will notice a 300 RPM increase at full throttle in low with this system. I do not know thw flow rate of the flowmaster but they did say that it was not designed for the LIGHTNING. The Edlebrock muffler is a find by accident muffler that has more flow than the stock LIGHTNING but it was not designed for this truck. It just happens to work as shown in the RPM increase. My rev limmiter is set at 6000RPM and the truck will only register about 5800 now.
Don't Give Up HP for sound.
Did not know it came with a dual inlet and dual outlet. That should be just find as far as exhaust flow goes. The last time I spoke with Flowmaster they only spoke of the dual inlet and single outlet for the Lightning. Flowmaster has always had great sound, I bet it does sound good.

Flowmaster has a dual in/ dual out, but it's definitely not specifically made for the Lightning. However I doubt there is any HP loss, it sounds great and feels great. Now going to dual 3" in/ dual 3" out is a different story, maybe that could be too much?

What diameter is the exit from the header? If it is 2 1/2" or less or there is a 2 1/2" or less restriction in the supply side, the increase to a 3" muffler will provide very small gains in HP(if any).

SCOTTODOG,
What's the part number of your 50 series Flowmaster; 2.5" seems to be limited to engines with less than 300 HP, even with dual inlet/outlets. THX,

SCOTTODOG and others......have any of you that have installed new exhaust systems recorded a "wave" file of the sound? I really want to be able to hear the exhaust note on one of you guys trucks before I install a new system.
I have a "wave" file of my Corsa Indy's that I installed on my C5 and have sent it to dozens of guys that were trying to decide which exhaust the wanted.
If the Flowmasters sound as good as they do on my "95" Lightning I would be happy!
Let me know........later.....Tybee

I asked the people a mufflex what the 2.5 exhaust would flow to they said around 500 horse. I dont know what type of muffler or what size pipe they would use for a system but I'm sure if you asked them in their web page Denny would let you know. All I know is my truck sounds louder than a 5.0 with a two chamber with a deeper bark. I love the sound. I dont know how much the system would cost but they make exhaust systems for chevy cars now and the prices are posted on their web page.

A Flowmaster exhaust system will be available the end of next week from Mufflex. I'm taking my truck in thursday to get the system installed and they will be selling a direct replacement kit for the lightning. The system will be 3 inch with two of the new delta series mufflers. Denny from Mufflex wants to test the stock system on my truck and then the performance system at atco raceway. I dont know the price but you can contact Denny at the web site for Mufflex listed above.

Hey Scottodog (a real name would be nice.) I talked to Denny @ Mufflex and he really seems to know his stuff. He says they've got it narrowed down to 2 systems, the 2 in 2 out Flowmaster or the dual 1 in 1 out Flowmasters. I suspect your truck will be the test mule. Which ever one runs the best at the track will be the one they market. He's also toying with the idea of retaining the ceramic coated tips or replacing them with stainless. Either way it sounds like it will be done right. It will be a bolt up with the ability to swap back if needed (for all the leased Lightnings). There should be NO warranty issues with Ford.
Thanks for the tip Scotto (BTW, I got your fast boats interrest covered too. Check out my sig)
