Post Superchips vs. PSP (Sal's program)

Rather than sift through the thousands of posts I thought I'd ask these questions straight up.

1. Superchip users: likes, dislikes etc.
2. PSP users (standard performance program): likes, dislikes etc.
3. People who have used both: opinions, thoughts etc.

I'd like direct input from users. For this exercise I would ask the Mike and Sal stay on the sidelines.

Let the games begin!

P.S. I just edited this to get it back to the top. Come on guys, what's the skinny on these chips?

my superchip works great as far as power but they need to work on the trans shifting more which they are doing if they can keep a truck long enough.i ran my truck last night with the chip and improved from a 13.95 with out it to a13.77 with it.i couldnt leave the line as hard with the chip with out spinning and i figure it might run 13.65 or better with slicks. i would venture to say that sals is also a good chip , ive always run supercips and have all ways been happy with the results.

Installed Superchip last Sunday.
Overall, very happy with the performance.
Gas mileage: Unchanged-13
Dislikes: When changing from Drive to Park,
with foot on the brake, it wants to die.
Also, AC kicks on and off at idle, again with
foot on the brake, otherwise AC works fine.

My lightning is feed Sals full meal deal (chip&air). The psp air has really woke up the charger and i cant launch without tire slippage.Even get a good 2nd scratch. Am very impressed with both but i think if only got one choice would go with the air system. The air system is a bargin at twice that price.

The Superchip delivers tangible performance improvements, however, I have had some contact related problems that have me thinking about staying stock for now. After several cleanings, the chip worked fine twice, and then wouldn't start again. I removed the chip (yet again) and everything was fine (I thought) but I had no A/C. Pushed hard on the firewall side of connector (despite well torqued 10 mm. bolt) and A/C returned. This was on a 1,500 mile trip.

What I would like to know is if a chip can be hard wired into a spare computer or if a computer module from any 97+ F-150 could be used. Also whether this would require a key change (big problems swapping ECUs in Lexus, etc.)

I have both chips. As always each has it's advantages and disadvantages.

the SuperChip in performance mode works really well. The shifts on the tranny are much firmer and the truck seems to come alive with it. This is not good however for the N2O applications as it can cause detonation problems. I have to run in the stock mode w/the nitrous.

The SuperChip customer service has been great when I first encountered pinging probs (w/o N2O) at the top of 2nd gear. They have since adjusted the calibration table in the program and it works much better now. Turn around time for reflashing was about 5 days.

Sal's chip is less radical to the performance of the vehicle, but seems to supply more power while taking it a little easier on the engine. I have talked with him and he is going to firm up the shifts some more and let me try it out.

Sal's service and expertise are peerless, the guy really knows his Lightnings and it shows in his work. He is still in the testing phase of the chip, but is very close to a finished product.

I know this may not answer your question directly, but the two pieces are both excellent and I think it's a matter of personal preference.

I think that Sal's chip may have the edge slightly over the SuperChip after he works on the shift points, but the differences are minimal and either does a great job.

Personally, I would rather pay my money to someone who does excellent work and is not a major corporation. I have had the rare luxury of having both pieces and I like 'em both.

Can you say "sitting on the fence"?

Mike,

I have 1900 miles on my truck. I have had the Superchip in the truck for the last 800 miles and am very pleased with it. The shift quality at WOT is exceptional...no more slipping into gear. They claim 25HP gain. I haven't dyno'd it yet, but the track doesn't lie.

Using the stock programming the truck ran 13.93/97.5mph against a 15mph headwind. With the performance program it ran consistent 13.7x/99 with a best of 13.65 @ 99.8mph. I fully expect the trap speed to be at least 101mph if there's no wind, but add that headwind in there with the huge frontal surface area of the truck and trap speeds will take a nose dive. 60' times were almost all in the 2.0x range with a best of 2.03 (not on the 13.65 run).

I'm planning on getting one of Sal's cold-air induction kits soon.
