Lightbulb Tires Anyone?

Well after about 13,000 miles, 2 trips to the drag strip and an awesome late night on French Road, I need some new rear tire. Any one have connections with a tire shop that can get these for under $280 a piece. OUCH!!

I went to Discount ti're to get a price last Friday and they couldnt give me one, it wasn't in their computers yet. The BFG's were and they are like $320.00 I think.

I have taken Tire Rack price quotes to both NTB and Discount Tire and they were happy to match the prices I got off the web. Yes, I did have to pay tax, but, no I didn't have to pay for shipping and mounting and balancing was free. (Wound up buying from NTB, but either place is good.)

Note: I think I have you both beat, I had to replace my rear tires at 14xx miles. I went to the strip and absolutely boiled them into submission. So badly that the side of the tread face was blistered and peeling. The tires are still useful, but only for the track. If Ford reps ever saw them, they would have a major Hissy Fit!

Chuck,

Like they wouldn't notice the nitrous, chip, traction bars and powerstack!

Hey, has anyone put the BFG Comp T/A's on their '99.5? How's the ride, handling etc.

Mark,

All of the above mentioned Items can be removed in a couple of hours, so what Ford does not know, will not hurt me. I don't think they would have a cow over the filter or traction bars, but the N2O is definitly not something they would like to see.

Ask some of the guys from the rally, that little 80 hp shot really made the truck scream. So far, I haven't had any detonation problems and the extra power is going to shave at least .5 second off of my ET's. I hope to soon post some mid to low 13's. Got a date at the track this Friday night if my back doesn't object and the weather cooperates.

Tires? LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THESE TIRES!!!

Boy was I in a perdicatment a couple of weeks back. I was on the highway when 2 cars in front of me lost his muffler casing. The muffler fell off and hit the front tire of the gentleman in front of me who proceeded to take his car into the shoulder and the guardrail. Then came my new truck. The muffler was spinning and I avoided it in the front, however, a section of the pipe jammed against my rear passenger side, inside sidewall (thats a lot of "side's"....sorry!). So.....since I am up in Canada, things are a lot more expensive! I went to a Goodyear dealer and he ended up getting me the tire for 485.00$ Canadian. Oh well....he gave me a pretty good discount on it and I had it the same day, so it wasn't that bad. What a pain, though. At least the tire protected the rim from getting damaged.

Sorry to hear about your tire. The first week I owned my truck, I hit a piece of metal which took a nice chunk of tread out of the middle of a rear tire. I got a roofing nail in the same tire the same week. It is still usable, but while I was at Discount Tire getting the nail removed(they fix flats for free and are one of only a few places that can handle the 18 inch wheels in my area), I "let" them sell me a road hazard policy on all of my tires. It wasn't as cheap as regular car tires, about $140 US (about the cost of half a tire here)for all 4 , but it provides for free tire replacement for as long as I own the vehicle down to 1/16" treadwear if the tire can't be fixed for any reason. As wide as these tires are and with so much traffic and construction going on, your bound to hit road hazards around the Chicagoland area. I figure if I get even one tire out of them, it was a good investment. Wlydman, I don't know if blisters in the sidewall would be coverd, unless there was still 1/16' of tread left. It would be fun to go ask.

Hey Wyldman, I dont know what type of track conditions you will be running @ but if you cant hit low 13's or into the 12's then there is something wrong!!! With the chip & filter , i would think that you should hit the low 13's alone. Like I said i'm sure traction must be a problem, but i cant imagine you not hitting the juice & pull a rough 12.8 - 12.6. if not then i had better at least see around 105 to 108 at the top end with all that. You really seem the be the one that everyone is watching with all the mods you have! I cant wait 2 see you post some times!! I think my maiden voyage (in the lightning) will come this friday. havent done any mods yet, want to get some baseline #'s to start with. Here in Phoenix the weather is finally getting down low enough where heat wont be a factor.

Hey Yoda!

I live in Houston, and the weather conditions for racing here are awful about 95% of the time.

I also pay some pretty heavy weight penalties with all the goodies I have on my truck. I don't seem to be able to get to the track w/less than a full tank of fuel either, so I pay for the extra wieght. The largest single wieght penalty I pay is my large butt in the driver's seat. I am a big'un and that costs me as well.

I am planning a trip to HRP this weekend, either Friday night or Sunday. Some of the other members in the area may show up as well. This would be good, as I will have some witnesses to the triumph or failure of my efforts. I will report what I find. The weather is starting to cooperate a bit and I'm hoping for a high pressure ridge for this weekend. When the barometer goes over 30, the truck likes it a lot.
