Question Good Deal?

Hi all,

I've come accross a White 99.5 with 12,000 miles on it for $24900. I'm about ready to do the deal but I thought I'd ask the group if they thought that was a good deal.

The truck is perfect, has CD, Tow and a Lear hard cover. The original owner traded it on a '99 BMW 740. Seems he needed a 4 door sedan. He took a serious $ hit on the truck but it seems money isn't a problem for the guy. The mileage doesn't scare me. My '98 Lariat has 19,000 miles on it and it runs and rides like new.

In my discussion with the dealer (wholesaler) about the price he said he's moved a few low mileage Lightnings for 29K+ but this is the first one he's seen with more than 5K miles so there's no history on what they'll be worth with 12K miles so he made an offer to the BMW dealer and they took it. He just wants to move product and his prices are very reasonable on some of the other high dollar rides like Porsches and Vipers he has on the lot.

Did I stumble onto a steal? I think so. What's your thoughts.

Mark, ya it sounds good. If that dude is buying a new 740i (probly abt $60,000 +), it sounds to me he is filthy $$$ & ill bet he took great care of it. When i saw this i mean that he porbably didnt beat on it that much. Is he an older gentleman? I would guess in his 40's or so he probably had it washed 1 every week or so (& i'm nit trying to say people in there 40's wash there vehicles) but i know what type of people buy vehicles & how those types of people treat there cars. I'd say go for it at that price.

is this the one in manassas? if so, i ran a carfax on that one, and it came up clean. but, for that price i was was still worried about hidden undisclosed damage. plus, the front plate has been installed . and last, its not the fast color. i will wait and pay for a fast red one .

Yep, it's the one in Manassas. I ran the carfax on it as well. It was registered in Maryland and I think they use both plates. The previous owner put about 3000 / month on it. The dealer has offered to get in touch with the original owner to answer any questions so that's a good sign.

I've delt with many wholesaler/dealers in the past (been in the business) and it's not unusual for them to put a price on a vehicle when it's offered to them that's well below the trend, especially when there's virtually no history on it's resale (very few on the market with more than a few thousand miles). This one is priced pretty close to the book on a loaded f150 Lariat which does hold it's value pretty well. Short of having been rebuilt from a wreck or flooded out there's little I've got to worry about since it's still got 2 years left on the warranty. If it had been in a wreck it shouldn't have as many miles on it since it's only 4 months old. If you factor in the time it would have been in the shop (2 months minimum on a major rebuild) it shouldn't have accumulated 12000 mile. I'm going to go over it with a fine tooth comb. I do know what to look for and I trust my judgement. At least that's my take on it.

I think White is the fastest color. Since white is by definition the absence of color it's got to be lighter that the others:-)

I'm hitting the road today with check in hand. If it checks out then come Friday it's mine so don't any of you guys get any ideas!

I seem to having a thunderstorm theme running through my garage. I'll be parking the White Lightning next to a Demon Blue Buell S3 Thunderbolt!!!! I like it.

Are you guys from or near Manassas?? Do you ever go to Chubbys on Saturday night?? If so, why don't we hook up this saturday at Chubbys. I am usually there once a month or so. We can get a malt and BS about trucks. BTW, I live off Fairfax Cty Pkway and West Ox Rd.

You can e-mail me directly at kimmel_brian@prc.com or call 703-556-1168

Brian K,
no, im not near manassas. i live in nc...a little south. i had just seen the ad for the truck, but decided to pass on it. i too am in the business and know what these independent dealers do. as for mark, i hope it checks out ok and you drive it home. but, the 5 hour drive, each way, was too much for the possibilites....also it was white. mine will come .
