Several months ago we removed a leaf from my friend/neighbors (Scott Russell, the past superbike champion) 99 L and it lowered the rear another inch. We removed the complete hitch assy at the same time. He has no objections to the ride and likes the results. I've been thinking about maybe doing the same thing to my 01 instead of changing out the hangers as I had planned on doing this winter....I never tow with mine either. How many others, aside from 03/04, have removed a leaf?

If I remember correctly the Hotchkis are a two leaf setup. I don't know of a single other than the glass ones. Better have traction bars installed if you plan to launch it hard. When I remove my stock springs after making a few passes with no T-bars they were bent bad. Nice twist in the direction the axle rotates. I can't imagine removing leafs from the stock stack. Yes it will lower it. Yes it will ride smoother (softer spring rate) but it will also be weaker. After seeing the stock spring bent like I did I would not consider removing a leaf.

Ditto...... removing a leaf is dangerous if you drive aggressively.
