Question Stock tire size on 93 Lightning ?

Ok here's the deal I am going to try and get my 93 F-150 5.0 Flare Side 2wd to handle like a 93 Lightning So I figure first I need to get rid of my stock 235/75/15 tires and put on some the same size as the lightning. I was looking at a page and it said the Lightning's stock tres where 275/60/17. I can understand this being the size on the rear but is this the size on the front also ? This seems awfully wide for front tires. Also does the Lightning have anything special on it like any adapters or anything to make these tires fit ? Thanks !

Hey BMW, Sal here. The 93-95 Lightning uses Firstone Firehawk GTAs in size 275/60-17 on all four corners. Not to sound insulting, but you will never get your regular F-150 to handle like a Lightning. Maybe close, but not as good. You see, almost everything on the 93-95 Lightning is unique to the truck. The springs are different, the radius arms are different, the I beams are different and so on. But the major difference is that the Lightning has a unique frame. It is .173 think as oppsed to the regular F150 at .140 and has a plate welded to the frame over the rear axle on each side, stiffening the chassis for better handling. While Ford rated the 93-95 Lightning pulling .89 G on the skidpad (same as a 95 Corvette), the engineers have told me that the early trucks actually pulled closer to 1.0 G. You could put Lightning suspension parts and wheel on and your truck will definately benefit, but you won't be beating any Lightnings in the turns. Hope this helps.

SAL

Thumbs up

Cool thanks man thats a lot of G's heh. I didn't know the suspension was that diffrent on them. Glad you told me. Maybe some Good springs and Lightning size tires will help out a little bit thoug. Do you think those tires will fit all 4 corners on a Flare Side F-150 ? Thanks !
