6lb lower and 60' times

did you guys pick up much in the 60' with going from a 6lb lower vs a 4lb? my stock converter stalls way too low to get me out of the hole like i want. i'm talking mid 1.90s in the heat with hoosiers, no chance of wheel spin. and it is NOT my launch technique. i'd kind of like to avoid going with a new converter at the moment. any thoughts?

In the same boat

I've done everything. I dont' know how much a bigger pulley is gonna improve a 60 if you can't launch harder. I just changed a convertor a buddies lightning and it wasn't bad at all, but you really need a lift, and a trans jack. I can't immagine doing it on jack stands.

Anyhow one of the things i would change if i could do it over was to put a convertor in as one of my first mods. My convertor is super tight.

i think i can get an evening or weekend in a friends auto shop. how long did the converter swap take you guys? i'm pretty clueless about transmissions but i can turn a wrench pretty good if i have a basic understanding of what it is i'm doing.

when you do it

shoot me an email, i can give you alot of pointers to save you a boatload of time.

You should be able to do it in 6-7 hours first time. Maybe sooner.

We spent a night and a morning doing it be ran into a few snags........mainly the convertor came with no hardware which was neccessary.

Yikes. 1.9's with a 6# pulley and Hoosiers? Man I use to pull low 1.8's with a 6# lower and stock F1's.

i meant i'm on a 4lb now, thinking about a 6lber to help my 60'. i run all 1/8th mile track stuff, so top end probably isn't that important. but yeah, my 60s still suck. it's not the engine's fault though.

FWIW I was cutting 1.8xx 60s on F1s with a #2 lower running 12.80s. No traction devices.

Maybe you've got something else going on?

Don't forget a helmut, so you don't get knocked the F-K out when you stand up fast under the lift at 1am!!!!! That was no fun!

Anyway, ya, I'm lovin it, and should have made it one of my first mods! Last week (Before comvertor) I was banging 1.90's on 28" hoosiers. No spin, launching as hard as I could. I used to hit 1.8's on nitto's. I will try the hoosiers again now that the convertor is in, friday assuming it doesnt rain like it does every wednesday and friday in New Hampshire!

I ran the 28" Hoosier's and a stock converter. Changing from a 4lb to a 6lb made no difference. I Pulled pretty consitant 1.7's on very poor tracks. I would hold the rpm's at 800-850ish and then nail it to the floor. Hooked and hauled. I would do a very mild burnout to clean and warm the slicks then stag. No dry hops or test launches. Roll up to the lights and go.

whip, just wondering if you made it to the track and what your impression of the converter was.
