$5000....any ideas?

Hey guys,
My current mods are an FTVB, JLP cold air kit, diablo predator, and flowmaster catback. The truck is a 2000 and I want some serious performance gains. I have about $5000 that I want to put into the truck but I want to be sure about the parts I spend my money on before I go and spend that much. Any combo ideas you guys can come up with will be greatly appreciated. Also how quickly should I be looking to replace my 2000 heads? Thanks.

Well, I'm leaning towards the KB and maybe some long tubes. I want to get some of the more expensive mods out of the way now and add the $100-$200 stuff as I go. I'm not sure about the KB with the old style heads. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to get as much out of it until I updated.

Whenever anyone asks me how to spend money on a project, I try to put myself in their shoes, you know, pretend I'm spending my own money. I stuggle with this. It would help if you send me the $5K...

Sorry, it's Tuesday and I'm just trying to make it through the week!

1. FTVB and 4x4 pan
2. Nitto's all around
3. Traction bars
4. head inserts
5. pulleys
6. intake
7. chip
8. elec. fan and cobra pump
9. exhaust (for sound quality, not power)

$5K is a nice amount to be able to spend, overall, HAVE FUN!

Your heads are no different than any other year's heads, aside from the 03-04s having more spark plug threads.

I would go with...

Kooks Longtubes
Catted/Uncatted midpipe to your current catback
Electric Fan with Water pump
Throttle body
Magnum Powers
60# Injectors
SCT Mass air
dyno tune

This would be a nice setup but I also think that if you are intending to build the motor one day, save up now and buy it. 5K is a big chunk of change off a motor

Thanks for the help guys, the only reason I am having second thoughts about the KB vs. MP is that with my stock bottom end there's only so much power I'll be able to get. Do you think with later modifications such as motor, heads, etc....that I would have to worry about outgrowing the MP? If I went with the MP setup as you said Jim what kind of numbers/times would I be looking at?

I would say ported Eaton, 6lb lower, e-fan, nitrous kit (small shot), SCT MAF, dyno tune. Then take the remaining money and work on the launch side - Nitto's, traction bars, and converter.

keep savng for a built bottom end with ported heads, or at least better valvesprings and cams.

if not, then:
Longtubes w/ a catted midpipe
Electric Fan (no "cobra" pump)
bigger Injectors
diablo mafia or SCT Mass air
kenne bell
dyno tune

That would be my choice as well.

If these are your only mods and you do not want a built motor then.

T-bars, Nittos, driveshaft loop, line-lock (you will do burnouts and probaly go to the track and the $200 will help save your drivetrain).

KB, 50s, plugs,pumps, dyno tune.

That will give you a good foundation in whatever direction you decide to go and give you one fast street machine. IMO.

My truck with the usual list of bolt ons on a stock longblock was running high 11's in the heat with a Magnum. Something the ported Eaton had a hard time doing. But that was was many $$$$ ago.
As someone who has had outstanding results with the Magnum on a stock bottom end, I highly recommend the blower. Out grow the blower.......LOL......I haven't yet!
And I've been trying real hard
