MAF Mounting

Does it matter which way the MAF sensor is mounted? I know it came from the factory with the wires going to the top, but I like them better in the front, so I rotated it 90 degrees on the intake. Will this hurt anything? Thanks for your help!

The factory MAF mounting is with the sensor on the front, pointing down.

I don't suggest changing it from it's inteneded location. Rotating the housing can affect the amount of airflow that passes the sample tube in the sensor, and can affect fuel, timing, load, etc. Unless the truck is being tuned in person, it's best to keep it clocked as stock.

Okay, so the part where the Chickenears billet cover attaches to should be on top, or pointed forward? Pics would be nice.

HI!... I've had my MAF in every position possible and have never had any ill effects from it. My A/F ratios never change or did the peformance of my truck. IMO it's a old wives tale.

I'm guessing it wouldn't make any difference, as long as the orientation of the element remains the same. It'd only make a difference if air was a liquid, and more air flowed along the bottom than the top.

It would be a problem if there was a big bend before the MAF, but it's straight as can be with our trucks so it's not a problem. A bend could cause different flow.

Stock position, the flat part of the electronics faces forward. The "plug" going into it would face down.

You can see it in this picture...
