Heat wave broke, I feel better.

Thought to pass on a few thoughts etc.

1. Checklist routine since having installed Superchip Fliip Chip; reading about gauges inaccuracy and piston slap lately.

A. Enter vehicle and start.

Listen for piston slap
Check oil gauge same place on dial OK
Check fuel gauge ditto OK
Check tach. still off OK

B. Turn off engine get cup of coffee and cigarette let engine oil get back to pan.

Check oil with dipstick.
Check water level radiator and intercooler
(Can't trust the temp gauge either)
Get fuel dipstick saved from early VW and check gas in tank.
If vehicle used hard on last drive, check trans fluid.

C. Start engine again.

Check position of flip switch.
If position 1, engage AC, OD and CD
If position 2, disengage AC, OD and CD

D. Check mood

If not in a go fast mood, and in position 2, decide if want to engage AC, OD and CD and execute.

E. Prepare for takeoff.

F. Take off.

2. Piston slap issue.

Based on a few reports here and elsewhere, got out stethescope (I'm not joking here) had someone else start truck and listened for strange noises.

On mine, the noises are definitely coming from the blower.

As well, I also believe SVT would not have repeated the known Triton problems with piston clearance given the chance to spec all new high performance pistons. So, for the moment, I am satisfied that I do not have piston slap.

3. Transmission shift kits.

A little help please. As the tranny is a mixture of parts from the diesel, the Super Duty and I assume some standard F-150 stuff, what shift kit/s should we be looking for? Anyone have any experience yet?

I have ordered a shift kit for the Lightning truck from Level 10, it still hasn't arrived, so I can't really give the lowdown on it yet.

I was very specific with them when I placed my order, making sure they understood this was not a normal F-150 truck. They said that they knew about the differences and assured me that this would be the correct kit. They don't have this listed on thier website, but did have it when I called.

As soon as I get it and get a chance to look things over, I'll get back with more info.
