Post Lightning K&N Filter

Fellow owners: Just received word via answering machine & e-mail from K&N that they will have a filter ($50.00+) available for us in 2-3 weeks.

P/N: 33-2140
E-mail address: RalphM@knfilters.com
Phone #: (800) 858-3333 (ext. 1070)

I expressed my concern, like others have, on filter oil contaminating the MAS. I asked how this was addressed and how it may affect cleaning and recharging.

I hope this is a help to others!!

Chuck

Hey Chuck (and others), Sal here. In my personal experiance with filters, washable "panel" type filters generally do not increase performance. If you install a washable replacement type panel filter in your truck, you will most likely not see any gain. I have already done testing on the 99 that concluded that the stock panel filter is not the restiction of the air inlet system, but the airbox itself and it's small inlet. I have tested the truck with the stock filter, and with no filter in the airbox, and saw no power improvement. Switching to a cone filter will net more of a gain, because the cone filter has more surface area to pull in air. I am currently developing a washable cone filter and mounting kit, that will mount the filter where the stock airbox goes, and will have a tube that mates it to the mass air meter. I am doing some dyno testing on a few things next week, and if I finish the filter kit, I will let you know the results and how much the kits will cost. Keep an eye out for my post on it.

Sal do you have a rough estimate about the price of your new filter and plenium. Just need to know how much to hide back from the
boss, this is getting to be a habit.

Thanks,
Terry

Sal,

You have my info for your Lightning chip already, just factor in the mods mentioned here and give me the total. I'll send you a check asap after I get your note and mailing address.

Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

I have the conical filter and adapter in stock and it sells for 79.95. Also when oil get on the MAF it is easy to clean off, just use a little windex. This is how Pro-M suggest to do it.
