Post Power Variations

I think My wrecked red Lightning was the second sold around My area. It had the screw hole covers on the cowling screws. The black truck I`m getting has No screw hole covers on the cowling. Is it posssible Ford tightened up the piston tolarances in the later engines to eliminate the problem with cold start up piston slap. My red truck knocked just slightly, sort of a diesel type sound. I have heard Ford was planning to decreace clearances to accomplish this . Have they done it?
Could the tighter engines be slower? My red truck had 5200 miles and it also seemed to get quicker as it loosened up. Anyhow, the cowling change ..I wonder if this is an indication of other things.

Twisted99
What do you mean about the screwhole covers in what cowling?

MRBBQMAN
What do you mean by lightweight...slower?

The cowl between hood and windshield has 2 screws holding it in,most early models had caps covering the screws, the lightweight and much faster version , did not have the screw covers

MRBBQMAN, Thank you for the info that's why I want to start the Power variations/Problems vrs. Build date so we can compile data to see if changes are made along production and how it effects each or our trucks, performance and quality wise.

Hey Twisted,

Yeah baby - welcome to the ranks of the factory light weight racing team. You just won't believe the dual benefits of not being burdened those heavy screw covers AND of driving a truck painted the fast color: Black. You'll be the terror of the streets and strips of Mobile.

F150SVT,

I'm sorry we have to disagree, here.

Black is only faster at night. during the day, the black ones absorb more photons, which makes them heavier.

During the day, the white ones are fastest. I got red, which is the best compromise and is faster overall.

So the later version has no caps and is faster?

BadDog, BadDog, BadDog -

OK, here goes Physicis 101, so listen up:

All trucks start out Black (the fast color). Unless they are then treated with a proper application of Antiphotonic Receptive Jell, they will, as you point out, absorb photons and tend to slow down. FoMoCo, in its infinate wisdom, knows this of course so they coat the ones they want to be the fastest with ARJ immediately after they leave the paint booth, then coat the mid-pack runners an hour later (turning them Red), and leave it off the others altogether (which turns them White).

Now, I hope I don't have to explain this basic law of nature again.
