Lightning Road Music
Just loaded up some road music in the CD changer on my '99 for the first
time. My initial selections:
Discs 1-4: The new "Hot Rods & Custom Classics" 4-CD boxed set by Rhino
records. My neighbor just gave this set to me and it's fantastic! 87 car
songs from 1946-1998, a set of fuzzy dice, MoonEyes catalog and decal, Tom
Wolf's famous essay "The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby", and
other stuff. Check out the Rhino website (http://www.rhino.com/) and also
the AutoWeek magazine article on p. 11 of this week's (Aug.2) edition for
their review of this new CD set (they loved it).
Disc 5: The brand new (July 99) 40th anniversary edition Jamie records
release of late 50's Duane Eddy songs titled, "Have Twangy Guitar Will
Travel". Great album. (Also a gift from my neighbor. I think he's getting
ready to ask a big favor.)
Disc 6: MCA's Meat Loaf classic, "Bat Out of Hell II". If this one won't
get you going, you're past help.
In reserve: Capital Record's 2-CD set titled, "Harley Davidson Road Songs".
Biker heaven.

i hope you have the best radar detector on the planet, to go with your music, as you know 100mph feel like 60 in that truck, especially when your singing and beating on the steering wheel

BBQ,
That is the gospel truth. I'm constantly amazed at how fast I'm going. This is one smooth, quiet, fast truck!
Got a Val-1 radar detector. Best I've ever used by a long shot. Looks like I'm gonna need it.
With my voice, the only place I'm ever going to be able to belt out a tune is in my truck. Hope that defroster works well this winter.

F150SVT,
Hey, some great music!
I think you should consider getting a copy of the Pretenders "Back on the Chain Gang" when the highway patrol clocks you at a 100 mph+ ......

This is a stretch on our Lightning board, but it's automotive themed and musical, so here goes.
A great video to get is the early 90's Sony Music Video Enterprises production of "La Carrera Panamericana" with music by Pink Floyd. This is a 65 minute film of the 1991 recreation of the old Pan American road race of the 50's, which ran for 2,000 miles from southern Mexico to the Texas border. The '91 event required you to drive a pre-1954 vintage car and 240 drivers from all over the world competed.
Both the images and the music are great. Pink Floyd provided the toons because David Gilmour and Nick Mason of the group competed in the event driving a '52 C-type Jag.
It's cool. You'll like it. Get a copy.

F150SVT,
Best I can do is send "Back on the Chain Gang" as an MP3. Don't have it on CD....
When you play it for the trooper he will most likely say "You got that right!"

someone made a claim on a news program, that in the male of the species, when songs like, "I can't drive 55", "radar love", "born to run" come on the radio, the gas pedal is sure to go down. they are probably right.

Dunbarton,
You're probably right. In fact, I'd probably be hummin' that little tune whilst doing my time. And my "time" might just include some chain gang duty. I think they still do that here in Florida.

MRBBQMAN,
Ain't that the truth! I do it all the time. Of course, in the past it wasn't in a 400 hp, 440ft/lb comfortable vehicle with a commanding view of the road that makes you think you're going 30-40 mph slower than your actual speed.
Like you said, when the Golden Earring's crank up "Radar Love" or Jan & Dean belt out "Dead Man's Curve" or the Beach Boys really get into "Little Deuce Coupe" (especially), my right foot starts keeping time and before you know it I'm doin' that "chain gang" thang that Dunbarton was talking about.

Check out Jerry Garcia's first album with "The Wheel" on it. I especially like the part where he sings "If the Thunder don't get you, then the Lightning will". This ought to be our theme song!
