JLP Sheetmetal intake problem

Has anyone who installed this on there KB had a vacuum leak in known spot? Like is there somewhere such as the TB, or one of the fittings that leaks? I sealed it to the case and allowed it to sit for 24 hours before I ran the truck; I don't see it leaking their, but now the truck has a slight lean condition, and has a slightly hanging idle both signs of a vacuum leak which I didn't have before....

Yes! Mine had a huge gap in several areas. It was leaking around the base where it mounts to the supercharger. I had to make a sandwich gasket out of gasket material and sealer to fix it. I'm guess the base warped when they welded it togother. Here is what mine looks like. Sorry for the crappy illustration.

With the truck running spray a little starting fluid around the areas you suspect are leaking. If there is a leak the idle will increase when you spray it.

Why in the hell didn't they re-plane the surface after welding, if this is the case?

Casey, they can leak, especially at the passenger rear corner. The blower has a counter-sunk hole there, and the sealing surface is very thin.

I checked mine for flatness, had to do some minor filing to get it flat. Then I sealed as you did, allowing it to dry overnight. I also ran a very tiny bead all the way around the outside where the intake and blower come together, pushing it into the crack and wiping all excess.

Yeah, no kidding. Hey man, just take that thing down to a shop and have them get the surfaces flat for you. I'd have them do the TB inlet side as well as the outlet. The EGR's graphite gasket is far more tolerant of surface imperfections.

Let me get this straight...you've got a $750.00 intake plenum that requires a trip to the machine shop in order to work correctly?

i installed mine and have a similar issue but wasnt sure what may be casuing it. the idle on the truck stay up at 1000rpm in gear when i come to a stop light. if i sit there for a a few seconds it drops to arpund 750 wasnt sure if this had something to do with the breakin tune. maybe i should check mine i did like the rest and put some sealer around the intake plate and the kb and the tightened it all down and let it dry.

If it's a new tune and combo at the same time it may not be the intake. If your dashpot settings or neutral/drive idle air settings are too high it does hang the idle and slows it coming back down. My SCT tune was that way until I changed those settings.
