tough to say. If he's international (which he is according to that phone number i believe) don't do it. Anything international is a scam. The "my client" thing worries me too. Just trade it in. 15k is pretty good for trade considering the miles.

trade in saves you sales tax
whats the benefit to selling to unknown person for the same $$
You will lose approx $1200 in tax selling to private person

Actually I lied to him, dealer is only giving me 12500, and in Michigan buyer pays the sales tax when they register the car, I wont have to pay upon sale, just when I buy my next car.

That's not a regular UK phone number. UK cell numbers do start +447 - but the +447040 code is also used for a subscription routing service, meaning that you don't know which number - or even which country - the call is being routed to

Be careful out there

I think that you are missing the point. The BUYER only pays sales tax on the difference. In other words if you are trading the vehicle in for $12500 on a $40000 vehicle, you would only pay the sales tax on $27500, not $40000. So if you sell your trade in outright then you now pay the tax on the full $40k.

The guy that bought your truck would then pay the sales tax at registration.

Things could be wacky in Detroit, but thats the way most states work. Good luck.
