Question Lightning Door Crack

Lightning Door Crack

I know this has been brought up about a thousand times but I just wanted to see if anyone could shed some light on my situation. I purchased my 2000 Lightning just over two years ago. Soon after my purchase I noticed I had the famed door crack on the driver’s side door. This was repaired by the dealer and I did not have a problem with it until last week when I noticed it was back. I called the dealer I purchased the truck from and anther one closer by (both SVT dealers) and they both told me it was out of the five year warranty and is not covered under the extended premium warranty I have. I currently have 30k miles on my truck with four years or 40k left on my warranty.

I guess what my questions are as follows:

-Is there any chance at all in getting this fixed under warranty or because the original fix failed?

-Should I get special treatment because this is a Lightning?

-Have many of you Lighting owners had this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

I thought this was a major recall issue back in the day? At any rate your extended warranty should definitely cover it!

No recall, just a TSB.

Was the I/C issue with the 99's a recall or a tsb?

it wasnt a recall and i dont even think its a tsb. it was a customer satisfaction fix... although it definately should have been a recall.

I had this problem on my 99 about 2 years ago, the crack was a bit over 1/2 a inch long. when you put up the window all the way you could see the door flex.

I was under extended warranty but talking to my dealer and SVT they said it was normal wear and tear and wouldnt cover it. Only after I went into the parking lot of my work and took pictures of 20 ford trucks with the crack. ( my boss had a brand new f150 and it had the crack ) did they cover part of it. The cost was around 900.00 to replace the door skin, add the brace and re-paint the door. I ended up paying $300.00 just to be done with it ( funny that they had the brace to fix a problem thats not wear and tear )

If they wont cover it under warranty just get the brace installed and the door skin replaced then take it to to a good paint shop to have it painted.

I had to leave the truck when I went to pick it up twice since they didnt tighten the door and when I opened it to leave it dropped down and ripped paint of the door and scrached the truck. The second time they was a scratch across the hood of my truck. Just beware of getting things painted at a dealers.

The paint match was amazing even tho the the truck was a few years old but it looks like someone left finger prints before they painted it cause the paint is lifting up now.

good luck with it
